I know this topic has been discussed a number of times in various threads - most often associated with the theft of gear.

Just received this email from ANVIL cases. Unsure if anyone else already spotted this and posted.

For the mods - I am not endorsing this product, nor have I checked out the details. If inappropriate, please delete without objection.

If allowed, just wanted to get the info out to our community. Hopefully, this is a start to answering a concern many have discussed before:

Anvil has teamed up with Lo Jack SCI, the industry leader in asset recovery, to offer the ultimate in equipment protection. The Anvil Case Tracker has a small GPS tracking device that can be placed inconspicuously within the case. You can track the location of your case online and get automatic alerts if the case leaves your designated area.

Contact Don Sessions @800-243-5152 For more information.

THE TECHNOLOGY
• Immediate location of your equipment
• Alerts sent if it is moved outside of perimeters that you set

• 24/7/365 connection to its location and recovery services

• Tracks the case using web-based, customizable settings such as Current location, Boundaries, and Movement

• Instant alerts by cell phone text and email

MONITOR YOUR ASSETS
• Track the device using a web-based live ID and monitoring site
• Use the Web-based interface to set-up alert maintenance

• Alerts are routed to key personnel via cell phone text and email

IF TROUBLE HAPPENS
• You set up your own alert system to notify of any deviation
• Monitoring Center coordinates action, up to and including dispatch of Law Enforcement, if necessary.

As nifty as this sounds - will it really work in reality ?

Usually the first things thieves do is they take everything out and dump
your case.

And if they do not do that - how does that work with law enforcement ? They
cannot really just march into a warehouse without a search warrant.

Just curious how that would pan out in reality.

If it works when it comes to retrieving stolen cars, why not high value equipment?

Yes, the thieves might ditch the case, but if the case has a dozen items inside, it's more likely they would ditch the case when they get close to their destination - more practical than carrying miscellaneous items in your arms or loose in a car. That helps localize the search. And if it is a bigger heist, they may have grabbed a number of cases - would they have time to search them all or would they be trying to get as much distance away as possible...
Time is crucial - for the thieves and the victims. As an owner, I would want to be on the starting line first. (They went that-a-way-->!)

As far as law enforcement, first, they like clues - this makes their job easier. (so, you say the camera is RED?)
Second, when it comes to a warehouse, sounds like "probable cause" to me.

Perhaps this will lead to RED or a third party developing a part that looks like an EPIC / Scarlet module or battery that has something like this LoJack GPS inside.

I'm curious too - it may not be the final answer, but the path to get there has opened up. It's not a guarantee, but it increases our odds of retrieval.

Better to be proactive than do nothing.

Or you can just hire Sasha, the man who made sure nobody stole my camera in Iraq.
Excellent references, ex-serbian soldier turned mercenary turned free-lancer.

He has bit of a temper though and much to the dismay of the Iraqi soldiers always
kept a bullet in the chamber of his Ak47.

So, while highly effective, maybe not the right choice for shooting a skin care commercial.
