LLO OLPF on STH settings in camera

Does anyone know/have any experience with having one OLPF (specifically the LL) physically in their Dragon while having the setting NOT on that designated OLPF in the menu?

I filmed a snow storm using the LL OLPF with the ST OLPF setting on the menu. For me created some interesting color shifts. Different than I would have chosen to use if I was just color correcting. That said, the color shift is baked in and if I wanted it to be neutral it would be very difficult.

Is there no way of df changing OLPF settings in REDCine?

The OLPFs do not have an electronic interface, so the setting has to be manually changed when you switch it. There is no way for the camera to know what OLPF is in it other than user entry.

I recently forgot to change the setting as well, thankfully it was a test shoot. There is no way to switch it in RC-X.

Mucho noise!

Since I don't have my hands on my Dragon yet, this surprises me a bit. I wonder if this is coming. Although, since it is an external, analog influence, I suppose the best we could hope for is a software "filter" or a new type of OLPF with an electronic sensor to communicate with the camera.

Once you swap them out, it's pretty obvious (due to the color shift as mentioned above) that something is off. Once you do it once for a test, there's no way to mistake what is going on (from what I remember it looks worse than just color temp being off). It'd be great to have an auto swap built into camera, but like I said, prob not necessary if you've tested it once or twice and can see it!

Happened to me very recently. Shot a quick run and gun daylight exterior and when I put it in red cine x the tone was of a green tint. I shifted the tint a bit in Red cine x and that fixed the color tone for me. Thank god for raw.

This is an example of what the Dragon looks like with the LL OLPF and the ST OLPF setting on the menu. Yes the white is easily fixed but other colors go wonky. So if the footage is filmed with the wrong OLFP setting it's pretty funky.

Thanks so much for the provided info and examples, everyone.

I agree. It'd be nice for there to be some sort of warning (sort of like electronic lens interfaces and having them properly communicate with the brain) to let the user know the Dragon's settings are matching the inserted OLPF.

Fool you once...

This happened to me recently since I just got the LLO OLPF and started playing with it. I took it outside and still had it on the STH OLPF setting and immediately noticed odd colors, while it was predominately purple, it looked worse than if the tint setting was just off. I think it would be pretty obvious in most situations if you have that set incorrectly.
