Hey

My workflow looks like this. I am editing movie which will be on theaters, so I need export DCP files.

1. I edited proxies in FCP
2. I sent sequence to Color but used color fixer, I see red tab in color so I was told I am correcting colors on red files not proxies.
3. I rendered files in color and sent back to FCP where I added transitions, filters
4. I exported quicktime movie

but I need to deliver DCP files to theater and have no Idea what to do.

Can anyone advise?

Hi there.

Firstly have you added your name to 'Real Name Thread' http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32432? This is a real name forum and you won't get very far without one. In the mean time add a signature to the end of your posts.

Secondly creating a DCP is a process that can be quite technical but there are a few packages that assist in its creation.

Here is a thread you might want to read. The editing software is more or less irrelevant its the formats and the process that is important.

thanks

I read this thread but is not it with PC, I am MAC user

Then I can't really help as I am neither a Mac or FCP user, sorry. I doubt that the process differs that much from PC but will let someone who knows better to chime in then.

Peace.

Hey

My workflow looks like this...

1. I edited proxies in FCP
...

On what type of computer did you edit the movie ? MacBook Pro, Mac Pro,...
And did you have any problem editing with the Proxies, because (almost) everyone is working with the ProRess files...

Actually I edited it with mac mini, I was told I was crazy, but proxies can be edited even on mobile phone if FCP can be installed on it.

It does not matter which files you edit in FCP, it is important that when you make color correction it should be RED files not proxies in color. (mac mini is not enough in this case)

I got great result in color so I do not think proxy workflow is bad,

I am just wondering how to issue DCP files from FCP or compressor as it seems wraptor is no more in place.

How long (minutes) was the sequence in FCP ? More than one hour ?

it was 85 minutes what I edited, 3TB of Red footage on Rocstor drive, actually I started with 8GB of Ram mac pro with proxies, but I realised i could do it same with mac mini, so i converted to mac mini and edited proxies, then i did color corretion on 8GB RAM mac pro again

I am not making big studio movie, but what I got was quite impressive,

what I am looking for is DCP workflow, now I need to make DCP files for delivery

FX first you have to add your REAL NAME to your Signature !
Creating a DCP and delivering it in the right form to the theatre is not a process like encoding a H264 quicktime file, it is a lot more complex workflow....
at the moment I think you are not able to set up the openDCP workflow so you need an alternative route. And this route will cost money !
As Corrado said, there is the possibility to use the easyDCP software OR and I think the better way with about the same price is to use CINEASSET from Doremilabs, which are also building DCP servers.... both Softwares are available for MAC and cost about 3800,- EUROS (you can calculate by yourself how much USD that is)
both providing DEMOs with different limitations.... BUT before you start you should LEARN what is essential for making DCPs... specialy if you want to grade by yourself...
you need a calibrated viewing environment which reflects to the REC709 spec. because you can let the softwares doing the transition to XYZ colorspace and 2.6 gamma...
For copying a DCP to a DCP server you need a EXT2 or EXT3 formatted drive....
I think you should also try to find a LAB next to your place and ask them for encoding and packaging the DCP for a suitable price....

The workflow is essentially the same for PC, Mac, Linux. You just need the tools for your OS.

I posted some information here:
