  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

draw 90% less power than conventional tungsten lights. Hummm
I wonder what the price will be...

I'm sure they are great, but it annoys me that they do the comparison wattage instead of specifying actual lumen output.

Tungsten typically puts out 25-28 lumens per watt. LED's are typically about 70 (about the same as HMI) with some able to produce close to 100. At best a 4 to 1 factor, yet they are claiming an eight to one factor.

Usually this means they are comparing the daylight LEDs to tungsten filtered to daylight which cuts the output in half.

Only thing I don't like about the litepanels is that they fall-off extremely fast. They look great and use not too much power, but for a large space I find they don't work that well.

Granted, i haven't worked with some of the bigger panels as of yet, but, maybe one day

Yes, it is very frustrating and misleading....but...

The industry standard and most commonly used HLX Halogen globes produce luminous efficacy 38-42 lm/W. The way I'd go about it is that I would buy the new product and, if it does not produce least 300 lm/W I'd return it after 11 months with a sticker: "doesn't work, please fix or refund". That would teach them to give correct specifications...

I think you're probably right, although they should certainly say so if that's the way they spec. On the other hand, my company uses some LEDs in a product and over the past two years, we've measured the same LED part become over 2x as efficient on average (optical watts out / electrical watts in). So the technology is certainly improving.
