The lightpanels Micro is roughly the same output of light compared to the Mini and at 1/3 the cost. The only downside is that its plastic and that there is no accessory to allow D-Tap power. To power the micro you need 4XAA batteries or AC 5-12V. Is there a way to make a cable that will let me power the Micro with the Red? Thanks in advance

A cable could be made, but for the cost I would sooner suggest you buy some rechargeable AAs and a charger. I recall seeing a kit of eight batteries and a small quick charger selling for about $20 at Costco.

I was thinking about going that route Mitch. Can Abel in LA make a cable like that? Any idea on what a custom cable like that would cost?

You should really do a side by side comparison between the micro and the mini plus. There is a substantial difference in output between the two...in terms of throw and beam angle. The Spot version of the mini-plus will throw alot further but is a little harsh to look at for talent.
I have used both side by side and there really is no comparison...but hard to beat the value of the micro.
Regardless the cable is an easy thing for someone to make.
Hope that helps!

Richard, that's the way I go. You should use the E2 lithium AA style batteries. You'll get several hours on them. It's one less cable to worry about.

I doubt we could make the cable for under $100. Seems a lot considering the value of the unit, but we'd be happy to do it for you.

BTW, Switronix is coming out with some LED lights that are priced about the same as the Micro but are far better build quality, are significantly brighter and include a built-in rechargeable battery. We should have them available fairly soon.

Mitch, is this the model you're talking about? http://www.switronix.com/product_details.php?cmd=info&id=195

Any idea on availability. I'm in need of an eyelight pretty soon
