Hi guys,

(Sorry if this has been posted, I couldn't find it.)

Can we start a list of all of the supported metadata options that will be able to be embedded into the capture? (And supported by RedCine, etc.)

thanks for any info - I'd love to assemble a list here, unless there is already one posted.

I suspect the meta-data options are, like everything else RED, infinitely flexible. Tape based systems have limited bandwidth alocated to timecode and other meta-data. A disk based system doesn't. Unless you're putting so much meta-data on that the write speed of the drive becomes an issue, you can probably do what you like.

We know there is an LTC input, and a USB input too. I think Graeme(?) said previously that time-of-day will be recorded on a secondary timecode track. I guess the question is simply how easy it is to get third party devices to talk to the camera over USB to give it meta-data. Is there a standard protocol?

There are no standard protocols for metadata. What exists in this field in terms of file formats is pretty underwhelming also. Our metadate scheme captures a wealth of data not commonly found in tape or alternative media systems, plus it provides the ability to interface to a variety of external USB based devices. The latter needs to be enabled via appropriate drivers of course.

Stuart,

Does this mean that the camera can record additional data from outside sources and embed that data, such as motion control rig etc, or is it just exporting metadata via USB?

With the development of appropriate drivers, import via USB, and record along with the video and audio and internal metadata.

Thanks Stuart, I appreciate you taking the time to answer. Can you list the "wealth of data" currently supported?

Well starting with, but not limited to -

Edge Timecode

Time of Day Timecode

Project Frame Rate

Instanaeous Frame Rate

Frame Size

Optical Format

Color Temperature

Shutter Speed / Angle

R, G, B Gain

Saturation

Exposure Compensation

Contrast

Tonal Response Curve

Gamma

Compression type

Audio sample rate / bit depth

Zoom, Focus, Aperture values

Clip Name -

Camera I.D

Magazine I.D

Clip Number

Date of Recording

Credits (optional) - Project, Director, Camerman, Editor etc

Brilliant!

This is more proof of how much thought is going into this equipment.

Outstanding, Stuart! Having these options available can have a tremendous impact on defining new work flows with greater efficiency. The possibilities are endless.

thanks again,

You could maybe put that info into the credits field. It's pretty hard for the camera to figure out what glass you put in front of your glass, but you can certainly include it in notes with a form of short hand in the credit info.

IE: OPTICAL INFO: 1/4 pro mist, 1/2 ND, Pola, etc.

Then it would be in the meta data. You could make it part of each shot setup.
