Just finished my a weekend of shooting with the Liliput A5 for the first time, and I really liked it! Was a nice screen (in fact the B cam would often be using it for himself! Rather than for its purpose: to be pointed at me, so I could keep an eye on the B Cam shots), seemed to be battery efficient (I think? I wasn't doing battery management though, that was B Cam AC's job) while being super small and lightweight.

For its price (only US$149!) I think this was an awesome bargain buy.

The A5 (no SDI) is $149 everywhere in the US.

I just bought the Q5 last week (SDI) for less than the $439 deal by using one of the frequent eBay 15% off deals -- Lilliput sells direct on eBay so it's legit.

I love my Q5. I am kicking myself for waiting as long as I did. I do want SDI over HDMI so I paid more for the Q5 but that A5 looks like a fantastic deal!

Also, the Q5 (SDI) is limited to full HD while the A5 (no SDI) is supposedly a 4K monitor, although no 4K HDMI on a RED brain so can't really push it to the limit.

Where did you purchase for $149?

Like Adam said, you can purchase it from heaps of places, I personally go it from Aliexpress which gave me free shipping to New Zealand!

And yes, the SDI version costs more. Am a frugal bastard so I just went with the dirt cheap HDMI monitor.

The fact it has pass through means using up my one and only HDMI output shouldn't be too limiting.

The SDI version however has more features (waveforms and vector scopes for instance):

Nice catch on the Q5 having waveforms and scopes -- which I used this weekend on a shoot I was producing.

If you're a cheap bastard, the A5 is awesome, though. And if you have a B-roll camera with 4K out, you're supported better than the more expensive Q5!

How is your battery life on the A5, btw?

I was DoP / A Cam op, so I didn't exactly notice battery life over on B Cam monitors'.

Which is where the A5 was, I had it pointed at me so I had an idea of what was going on over there. Although I had recently got a wireless video transmitter which I wanted to use:

But just didn't have the time/manpower to get around to setting that up, as the whole day was a rush with heaps to knock out.

However yeah, battery life never seemed to be an issue with the A5? Unlike with the Shogun Inferno which was a massive battery suck! Stopped using NP-F batteries pretty early into the shoot and just ran it from D Tap instead.

I'm surprised that SDI monitors are not more affordable, I'd happily pay an extra fifty bucks if the Liliput A5 had SDI as well! But to pay three times the price? No thanks!

I own the blackmagic video assist 5". But is on the small side for me(+heavy for a 5"), So I want a 7". So I got the blackmagic video assist 7" but that thing is way too heavy? I dont need a recorder. Are these lilyputs 7" ones with SDI worth it?
