Can anyone point me in the right direction in recreating a light setup similar the this? Whats the smallest light i could get away with using for this?
Far as I can tell it looks like a HMI (size?) shot through/bounced off a 12x12 off camera left and some kind of other bounce off camera right. Any help would be much apprectiated

My Guess it's something like a Broncolor 800 or 1600 par because only the closer sunlight shots are fully lit? Some of the shots look like it's through light diffusion but it's fairly direct ( from the shadows and eye reflections) and on a not very tall stand. Of course in the sun mirrors / silver reflectors can be super useful as well.

Looks to me like the lighting changed through the day/days. The still frame you posted looks a lot like just a bounce of some kind easily replicated (guess ultra-bounce 12x). The dusky/night shots obviously had some electricity involved, but always the light is soft and probably bounced as the camera gets closer, which means it could be a big lamp. Wider shots require larger more powerful instruments, tighter shots can be smaller depending on what kind of background levels your fighting.

I was thinking it was maybe a bigger course because its pretty High-Key overall. But I guess I could see that, the desert kicks up a lot of fill naturally.

The shadows in her face suggest a not too big but direct light, my guess it´s a silver reflector 8x8 or 12x12 mostly natural light during the daylight scenes. This also is an excellent source when used as bounce from a HMI. I have also used silver frames in sandwich with a 1/4 stop on top to have it a little less harsh. And yes the light ground gives a lot of fill. Cheers!

Looks like a silver lame to me. Music video guys love them some Briese's which look like that as well, but doesn't lok like there is one being used in the stil frame you posted.

PS- anyone ever worked with a Briese and not have it catch on fire? ;-)

This makes total sense now that I hear it. thanks so much

Well Im a music video guy, so... lol.

From rewatching it with this info I think its definitely a Silver Bounce, then they just added a 1600w ish HMI later on in the day.

Haha, definitely not a light to just run unattended, especially when pointed down or used as top light. Also delicate and often abused in rental, ridiculously expensive to own if you don´t know how to workaround and run them off a standard Arri ballast. In addition I honestly think they´re overrated but still -they are hip and people just want to see them on set. At least they are fast to move on location... BTW their strobe units are even worse ;-)
