  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lighting for a green screen

Ok, but you all talking about ligting one person standing. when you shot for example girl and she walking, danceing 3-5m around you have no chance to light that way.

Why light the Screen first?

You should be using a waveform monitor and there should be no lights working other than the screen lights. You want it flat and somewhere around 60 IRE.

Now you can light your FG subjects with a proper level

This only works if you have a perfect separation between the fore- and background. In smaller studios, especially when using soft lighting, this simply isn't practically possible. Some of the foreground lighting will spill to that carefully lit backdrop, at worst requiring a relighting pass.

When shooting full body shots, with the talent fully on greenscreen, this becomes even more an issue.

Crazy!

Crazy!

That's an awesome looking shot. Looks like the backdrop is pulled down at a slight angle which helps a lot. Hope the final comp looks good.

here is example of greenscreen with R1, We shot 2k 16/9 RC36 100fps Keylight for keying
cheers!

I've heard that 2k on a Red can cause lots of color artifacts that can mess up a green screen shot. Did you see any jaggies along the edges in the final composite?

Thanks Brad
Backdrop wasn't pulled down at a slight angle.

There was no artifacts at 2k 100fps RC36. We shot this closeup for test becouse I saw some artifacts in other shots at 2k but it was before I received red drive and with 8GB CF You can shot only RC 28 at 100fps

Hi,

Here is a Green Screen I did with R1, I did not need to use extra light for the screen at all.

Hi Stephen,

Used to shoot vertical GS on S16 to increase resolution. Like that you turn your R1 vertically as well - obviously not for quallty reasons but for FOV and less garbage mattes :).
