Hi guys,

Would appreciate some advice. We have a shot of a car driving along a road at night with town lights in the far background. It's a great image, but I'm wanting to see the car more; so we can see some reflections on the body and see some detail and colour of the car (don't need to see the driver at all, the car is the hero).

I'm thinking the best bet would be to simulate a street light look. Nothing with too much definition or contrast but with soft overall light with a slightly orange tint.

There is grassy space camera left of the shot and some room camera right.

What would you lighting suggestion be??

Here's the shot. Would only need to light the middle 3-4 seconds.

Thanks for your advice

Cheap, quick and simple? Park a couple of cars off to the right and maybe near the camera that will wash your talent car with their headlights. Tape some gels over the headlights to warm them more, although you may not need that with the dusk lighting overall. Just a thought.

A couple of Airstars warmed up.

2 x 1.2 Gaffairs should give you a soft overall light just enough to fill shape and define the car and no genny involved

fantastic guys - keep the ideas coming
the park a few cars off to the side definite option (and one I would often use) but looking for a classier look and may have the budget to bring in some lighting and crew

Are you really only looking for that 5-second bit? The sky seems to be doing the right thing, you just need more of it. Why couldn't you shoot a few minutes earlier, when there is a bit more ambient light? Grade the sky darker if needed. What am I missing?

or a car driving in the opposite direction, but i guess it will mask your car for a second or two.

Definitely an option, but really looking for maximise visibility of the lights in the background. And lighting the car should really make it stand out more. We shot the same image a few minutes earlier but found the background action just wasn't strong enough in more light.

Color correction could solve this problem, to a point. But you need some reflections on the car body to sell this, along with more fill light. Strictly IMHO.
