We are currently buying extra REDMAGS as we like don't like to delete cards until the footage is totally backed up (LTO) and checked.

The question is, how safe is it to purchase second hand Redmags ?

Or to put it another way, what's the lifespan of Redmags ? How many times can they be recorded/formatted?

How many times can the media be inserted and ejected from a camera/reader before there becomes an possible issue with the contacts?

Can the Redmags be serviced by Red?

Ive heard that Red does incredibly thorough testing on their media, but what does this mean?

Thank you in advance to all you wise and generous technical people...........

I have some of the first REDMAGs shipped to any customer - and they work non-stop - and we have not had one die yet. I don't know how many cycles the connector is spec'd for - but is sure as hell must be a lot.

All mine (2x256, 3(used to be 4)x128, 8x64Gb), except the one someone stole is still working flawlessly.

I heard it should be to handle atleast 10 years of constant heavy without breaking a sweat.

I been on a job 2 years this March that uses just one card that cycles it, we really just use it as back up and shoot on HD SDI, so the cards just there in case the computer locks up. so the card get wiped like 10 times a day for like 200 shoot days and still is going strong.

The connector was designed for 10k cycles. They are extremely robust and are incredibly reliable.

Steve how do you know about the 10k cycles for the connector?

It's not that I don't believe you, I just prefer to separate facts from 'I heard from someone once that.........'

Thanks Everyone for the replies.
