Hi all,

It may just be that I'm remembering wrong (I've mainly been shooting 2:1 for 2.4:1 extraction), but I'm sure we used to be able to shoot 4K 16:9 to our Lexar 8GB cards under B16...

Just upgraded to B17, and now the camera's telling me that the media is too slow for RC36 4K 16:9 - 2:1 is fine (and that's ok by me, it's the mode I use most and I can always extract 16:9 from that if needs be), and I haven't checked RC28 16:9 (which I presume will be fine - checking now) but should this happen? If so, are there any other restrictions I should be aware of with the Lexar cards under B17?

Cheers!
Dom.

Sorry, should also have mentioned I'm shooting 25fps here...

After a few tests, it looks like I can shoot any resolution I like to the Lexars as long as it's in RC28, but I can't shoot 4K 16:9 or 4K HD at RC36.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Cheers again!
Dom.

If memory serves it's only ever been RC28 to CF cards.

For 4K that is correct. RC 36 4K 2:1 is available to 8GB CF.

Full details are in the Operations Guide

Ah - so bad memory on my behalf then!

I will indeed shoot 2:1 and crop, that's where I'm at at the moment anyway, but good to know I'm not loosing it!!

Cheers,
Dom.

Hey Dom,

Why not just shoot RC28 with B17 in 16x9, surely that would be better than cropping 16x9 out of 2:1 in RC36?

I need to go out and get a few of those Lexar 8GBs. Can someone please confirm I am getting the right thing, here.

Hey Mike,

Depends what your output is - I'd guess RC36 2:1 with a centre-crop would give a better 1080p output than RC28 with a slightly larger pixel count, but I think we're both well into the hair-splitting end of things here!! To be honest, can't remember the last time I shot for 16:9 output, so it's a bit of a moot point for me, but I'm sure it'll crop up (if you'll excuse the pun!) sooner or later - so always good to be prepared.

Where I can see the RC28 route being better is if you either (a) need to output 16:9 in 4K (why on earth you would I can't think, but you might want to crop to 1.85:1 for feature work, which would be essentially the same issue), or (b) are doing high-speed work in 2K for a 16:9 output and didn't want to force post to have to crop the on-speed shots but not the HS footage - you just know they're going to f*ck that up somehow! ;)

Sandeep - those sound spot on to me, that's what ours have written on them...

Cheers all,
Dom.
