  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

I got the Silencer Pro version.

Here's almost 5 minutes of untouched Helix footage (with the exception of just a few handheld shots, its all Helix). I shot this over the course of about 5-7 shows with very little knowledge of the Helix. I have yet to open the software to tune anything, and I was still trying to perfect balancing at the time this was shot. I'd love to get some constructive feedback on this, its still a very rough draft though.

Personally, I am in love..the Helix+A7s gave me a very unique look that no other tour videographer in this type of music scene has ever had before [whether its for better or worse haha].I've been trying to get footage like this for over a year and a half and the Helix allowed me to do so!

I think with the new firmware the stabilization will be easier than what we've been tinkering with.
I just had my brother (who does not have a lot of experience) and he said it worked amazingly well.

By the way, can you post pics of your set up?
I want to see how you mount it.
Thanks!

The Silencer is a little bit heavier than expected. Something like 2.5 or 3 pounds if I had to guess? Don't quote me on that though.

With the A7S, however, the setup is wicked light. I was shooting those 40 minute sets every night for three weeks and it wasn't bad at all.

much thanks Joel.
2.5-3 lbs is much more than I expected haha.

Also here I'm using the Helix strapped to the front of an ATV.
Had some issues when we went 25-30mph.

Why is there in Letus35.com a Letus Helix for 2675$ and then a Letus Helix ESS with a deposit only ($795), what is the difference between this two porducts?

Its a deposit for the Helix.

The 2675 is just a link to see the breakdown.

Are all of the Helix pre-orders filled now? I was thinking there would be a little more in the way of user feedback at this point. Note is becoming the web's most dominant gimbal reviewer between his work here and earlier at BMCuser!

Haha thanks.

We're doing something on Sunday that should be pretty nifty. Nothing with ATV though.
Doing a video of autotune on the Helix today.

So what was the final reduser discount? I suppose that's all over isn't it?

The group buy did not include a price discount. It basically bought you into being one of the early users/testers and, in doing that, there has been a lot of one-on-one personal service that has come with ownership. Letus has invested a TON in the development and service of this product and, at this point, it has only begun to scratch the surface of possibility. You haven't missed too much except the excitement of being in early on the learning curve. And there is much more to come!

Obviously, the unique "between the hands" design of the Helix (vs. the "dropped" design of other gimbal-based stabilizers) is what separates the Helix from the rest of the field. I believe this design to be superior (just an opinion, of course) but here is the thing... if Helix has a weakness right now, it is software. Letus has only begun to tweak the capabilities of the software and there is so much in the way of potential ahead. When the software catches up to the hardware, Helix will be killer. In the mean time, all users are in the same boat of experimentation and continual tweaking. Compare that to the market leader, where the software really is very advanced and you realize that it has pretty much already reached its potential.

The advice I would give to anyone who is on the fence about a gimbal-based stabilizer is to start doing the research immediately but wait 2-4 weeks before making a final decision. Look closely at physical design characteristics including weight), the approach to software development, and customer support.

Why 2-4 weeks? Anything new going to be launched?

I agree that the MoVI is mature as they have had a lead in development and I guess they would have also put more resources in developing software as they had a long list of buyers than other gimbal makers can dream.

Same question....are all the "non-GB" orders filled yet? The first set of RU Helix orders?

My calculus of time frame is based on

1) IBC - something cool always happens at IBC and takes a little time to roll out and study
2) Firmware - we have just had a significant firmware update and there are kinks to be worked out
3) I think it takes this kind of a time frame to do your homework

Just my noodling.

Could this be rigged somehow to be in a shoulder mount type setup? Maybe with 2 axis? I wonder..

Absolutely. This is definitely one of the flexibilities of Helix; using it in various configurations. This particular one is on my list to test thoroughly.

Agreed that Helix hardware design & support is *amazing*. Looking forward to the software improving, but I've said before and will say again, the former characteristics aren't likely to improve with any given manufacturer while the latter is almost guaranteed to. We love our Helix and believe in Letus 100%...

Thank you,

Thank you,

Couldn't agree more, PC.

At the risk of making nobody happy, this is how I see the current market for the stabilizers that are getting all the "noise" on this board... (please note, my OPINION only)

1) Movi - current market leader / most mature product / software probably the most advanced, mature and stable / premium pricing / the "go to" gimbal for current/immediate performance

2) BeSteady 4 - struggling to get units out the door / probably will have more mature software/hardware integration than Ronin & Helix / they may struggle financially to provide adequate customer service after delivering units / they deserve kudos for hanging in there in the most trying times with a customer base that is justifiably pissed off and antagonistic / time will tell

3) Ronin - based on the same general principle as the other "dropped design" gimbals / probably less advanced software than it's direct competitors but this is an area that can, and probably will, improve dramatically over time / if you believe in this type of physical configuration, the price (and potential) of Ronin will make it very attractive

4) Letus Helix - completely unique design offering a variety of use configurations / modular product offering 1,3 or 4 axes that can be added over time / still developing software capabilities which are not yet mature / like Ronin, software improvements likely to be dramatic / excellent support and customer service from Letus, a solidly profitable, established and well-managed enterprise

I hope I have been fair and accurate if, obviously, not comprehensive. These are all products with promise and most are all still evolving. It pays to think about the features and capabilities that you value the most. No two people have exactly the same perceptions, needs and use cases.

All-in-all, fun times!!
