  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

Just a word of caution, I have a friend here in town who's had to send one of these back 2 times now in a short period of time because of problems it developed. Might just be unlucky, but it's worth taking a look around.

Hien and I are discussing additional goodness to provide to the RU community for your support. Initially, the biggest benefit was the early access to reservations. That is still locked to the RU community right now. PM me if you need the link!

Your enthusiasm and feedback is greatly appreciated. We value it greatly and will try to find a way to throw in some additional benefits to the members here. Thank you all again!

You guys are great. Much appreciated what you're doing here.

I saw a post recently (I'll have to dig to see if I can locate it) where RR addressed some of the problems people were having the the Remote FF. Seems like certain adjustments weren't made quite right by the user. As a Remote FF owner who hasn't used it very much so far, I was encouraged by their guidance.

Glad to hear that, Terry. If you do find that link at some point let me know, but I'll pass that along to my friend.

If you guys are going to be at Cinegear, I wonder if you might consider stopping in SF on your way home if we can gather a crowd to see the product?

Somewhat interestingly, Vince Laforet is doing a seminar about camera movement (i.e. marketing the Movi - lol) in San Jose on June 6th and SF on June 8th. (Link here: http://shop.mzed.com/index.php?id_cms=7&controller=cms) His full day seminar may generate a lot of interest in stabilizers all around. And a whole lot of those folks won't want to spring for $15K+.

Just a thought. :-)

The RT motion thumbwheel works very well...happy to soon have another potential use for it.

Even with the extended weight capacity of this gimbal, I'm very pleased to have jumped on the RTmotion FF, as it's an amazingly compact and light design without sacrificing performance. The size of its receiver compared to a Preston MDR could not be more drastically different. Absolutely tiny, and a lovely companion to the Epic.

Thank you for this, Aaron. Obviously you, Hien and team are creating something special with this gimbal design and the price is already quite reasonable...but it's always nice to throw in that extra bit of love to the people who are willing to take the plunge with you and get the word out in favor of the Helix vs the competitors. A storm case, some cables, an additional discount on the 4th axis, whatever you're able to do...every little bit helps in building a fully-operational solution, which necessitates spending outside of the Helix purchase alone. If you end up encouraging Helix owners to complete their packages by way of giving them that extra bit of savings, it will serve Letus in the long run as well.

Best,
Clint

Forgive me for not reading all pages. Is it a timeframe before we se footage from the 4axis? Also could you by a 3 axis systeam and add a extra axis later?

I've been looking through this thread and can't find a link for deposit. Can someone please direct me.

Thanks

If you would find some time to do a small review on your RT gear, I would absolutely love to read it.

Want to pull the gun on the system, but there's just nothing out there to watch or read about it. Add also their radio silence lately...

Main changes are a "skeleton" design to all of the aluminum parts to lighten it up. The one used in the demo video was fresh out of the labs and not as finely tuned as the production versions will be. We are hoping to get a local filmmaker to snag some more demo footage for us this weekend up in Portland if we can get it arranged.

You beat me to it, and, although your example is actually not an exaggeration at all given the price of the Movi, I was going to go conservative and say, "Would you feel like you're getting a much better deal if the retail price were $5,900, like the H14 (ONLY during the NAB special . . . normal price is $6350) or if it were 10K-ish like the Be Steady 4, or $5,295, like the early bird special for the Allsteady 7 Ultimate, or even $5K, like the Ronin and THEN it were offered at $4K?" Would you say, "This is such a sweet deal, I'm getting a thousand, two thousand, 6 thousand dollars off the price?"

To me, Letus' approach is the absolute most honest, psychologically PURE way to do business, one that I truly wish were the norm in commerce, something like the Saturn model of car sales. "This is our best price, this is what we think will remunerate us adequately for our THREE YEARS of product development and ingenuity and what we also feel will give customers a great product at a VERY low relative price in the field. If you want it great, if not, feel free to buy the Movi at over four times the price."

Have the mind-programmers of commerce really succeeded to the point that even the very intelligent people at this forum have to have games played with pricing in order to feel good about a purchase?
Hi Elizabeth,
There are complete papers about consumer behaviour in marketing and this is not the forum to talk about it. Nevertheless I am pretty confident that if Letus talks about 15K list price with 10K discount or 10K with 5K discount or whatever, it won’t get many people to buy.

MoVI was a special case. The unprecedented hype created by Vincent Laforet can’t be matched. MoVI was the first to offer such a value proposition. So there was no benchmark about pricing. So there were people who bought at 15K. MoVI still continues with its Premium Pricing strategy and occupies premium positioning in the minds of people. So it will remain successful for sometime, unless it stops innovating and differentiating its products from others.

Many corporates employ a Market Skimming strategy. So they launch a product at one price point and when at that price point they have got all the consumers, they lower the price either by lowering list price or giving discounts and reach the next level of customers.

Some follow cost plus pricing. However, this pricing is not cast in stone. For example, if there is huge demand and the company has to set up new lines ie incur capital investments, then it has to recoup from its sales. So often the companies try to sell some new variants at a different price level and calculating actual product variantwise profits become difficult.

Some companies want to penetrate the market and employ an attractive pricing to attract new customers. A company like Letus entering the market after a year of MoVI and many other gimbals, has to find customers who have not already bought would benefit from using the market penetration pricing strategy. With each passing day the overall market size becomes smaller as they are competing with many gimbals in the market. The price will fall rather than go up till there is the next level of disruptive innovation.

If you would have looked at the Kickstarter of the gimbals at 5K + USD did you see many people buying it at that price? Do you think Letus wants to sell only a handful of gimbals? Ofcourse Letus brand is more well known than those Allsteady, Ultimate7 etc.
However, is Letus a premium brand like OConnor, Arri etc that it can go for premium pricing? The perception already associated with a brand matters a lot. So anyone who is talking about pricing at the level of MoVI and offering 10K discount is not aware about consumer behaviour. Even if companies like Arri and OConnor are to enter this market, they won't have that euphoria generated like MoVI. The market, or major parts of the market has moved.

The gimbal wars will intensify. Any company which doesn’t grab consumers in the immediate term will face a big challenge. Redusers form a good and vocal group who will serve as good ambassadors. So special pricing for redusers is important to lock them into Letus ecosystem. I am using the word ecosystem because someone can now buy one axis or three axis and lateron buy other stuff to make it 4axis.

Also many people who would have not bought a gimbal now, would get attracted to buy one immediately if there is a special discount. That is the attraction of group buys in reduser and it also gives the company a lot of tailwind.

If some of you vocal folks believe that this meagre 105 usd discount will ensure very good initial adoption from redusers then lets wait and watch. I believe it could have been a phenomenal group buy. Anyway, it is upto Letus to decide what is best for them.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Awesome, looking forward to it

Sabyasaci - With all due respect to your market analysis, every situation brings nuances. The mere fact that this process evolved transparently and in front of the potential buyers has an effect on how people feel about it. You are right, there are many clearly known facets of marketing but the process of marketing "high involvement products" to "enthusiasts" is one which has a slightly different set of rules; and it's an area I have been closely watching for more than two decades.

You are right, this is no time to go into all of it (although you did) but the rules of loyalty and perceived value are very different in a situation like this. Loyalty is not to brand per se, but to the value proposition the brand brings. These consumers are loyal as long as the brand delivers. And price is actually only a small part of that equation insofar as this type pf consumer simply does not want to be cheated or, in effect, embarrassed with his peers; because the "enthusiast" consumer, one whose self image is intertwined with the wisdom he projects when choosing his equipment, believes himself to be very capable of selecting the best quality/value product from an array of choices.

If the Letus Helix (and others) delivers on the many promises it makes, and it is fairly and equitably prices in comparison to its competition, it (and the company) will very likely win loyalty and sales for as long as it maintains that value proposition. If it doesn't, eventually loyalty will be lost and "smart" buyers will find another solution. I would say Movi may have the biggest challenge going forward insofar as it is charging a premium price. Up to now the product was fairly unique and was also, I believe, very high quality. They can trade on that for awhile longer. However, if the build and action of these new products approaches that of the Movi, their marketing will not save them forever. They will have to justify their relative value compared to the competition.

In the end, I don't think your argument is persuasive as to why Letus must offer a deep discount for their product. They have a good value proposition which will stand on it's own for new buyers of gimbal stabilizer systems. If you can find a better cost/value proposition in the market today, I would like to know about it because I will seriously consider buying it instead.
