  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

Why and what the patent is?

Here it is:

You put a fixed U-shape up, you can shoot straight on a steadicam. You added 2 ball bearings on Tilt axis, you can now tilt up and down. You add a ball bearing coincide with the Pan axis, now you can pan. No system can do this, that's why it's worth patenting

BAMM! Game on Gimbal World!!

I want to maintain the 360 roll, but if I want to do what your Gravity One, I would take our the 4th Axis, take the handle from the tilt axis out and hang the motor up, can it do exactly what your system can do, but I don't think it's a good idea, that's why I am not saying that.

Honestly coming out of NAB Movi went from 1st to back of the pack when price and current competitive field is considered. Lots to look at now and they didn't close the door

Well, heinle, you can rest assured that I am extremely impressed with what this can do!!

Now - the bad news is that the 4th axis option will add $10K to the price, right? (Please say no. Just kidding!!!)

How much weight does the additional axis add?

Yes - that is what I am seeing...
That's what I was seeing as well, but it looks like it would be too bottom heavy to balance out the tilt. Those tilt motors would have to be extra beefy to keep from burning out.

It adds about 2lbs Terry, but it meant for the steadicam, so it doesn't matter much. You don't hold it in front of you for sure.

Good point. - Although, you would want to attach the 4th axis attachment for low shooting holding the top handle. But I don't see that as a problem, either.

My friend I understand your tilt axis bearings used with the magestic mode, good luck with this moving with a steadicam you will find out many news when you try to operate the thing in reality, as for the pan axis , look at my picture attached. its already available in arm posts , so you connect and you swivel simple as that.

Now look at 1.23 of this video, and tell me that you can do this with out having the pan motor relocated on the 4th axis, as far as jib moves concerns.

do not get me wrong, you have done a very nice gimbal and I like it, my personal opinion doing steadicam for 15 years is that though it works, its will not really be a confortable, nor accurate enough to perform dynamic steadicam shots, and move comfortably, but thats personal preference .
That also applies to most gimbals that are trying to do the same thing, but again, if you are happy with the moves Iam happy for you no prob.

Congrats on your work

best regards

FWIW - just a point of info - that post on my Zolinger stabilizer does not swivel; it is stationary.

With the arm, some does swivel, some doesn't. I just added for universal design. I didn't just patent the ball bearing on that axis, I patent the pivotal point on or parallel with that axis. That's what I paid big bucks for the lawyers

Why do you need a motor on 4th axis. It's fixed. The pan motor is on 2nd axis.

We need a video of the Helix in action, shot with a Helix!

Oh, and can I use this with my iPhone? ;-)

Cool. Anyway to roll?

Personally I don't need the infinite roll, In the super rare instance I would do that in post. But it's thrown in for free so who cares!
As far as the extra big pans on a Jib, I don't need that either. For those that feel they do need extreme pan on a jib, go ahead and buy something else IMO.
Not even sure why you need a gyro stabilized Jib, unless it wobbles a lot because it's rickety ? Those small motions could be stabilized with software as well, no ?
I look forward to a group buy. Lookin nifty !

I like the look of this gimbal. :)

First of all, good work Hienle!

I have a question for you. Am I able to comfortably work with the camera in eye level? By the look of it, I seem to be a bit constraint around belly level.

I just bumb my question in case it got lost in all the talk about the agility of the 4th axis. ;)

John, one of the best thing about the Helix is the eye level shot. As you can see from 3 axis, your hand is right around the optical center. So, it's just like operate an action camera, not a gimbal

Glad to hear that Heinle.

I just got worried after seeing your colleague holding it in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I5DW6ZNDEw

When he grabs it, the comfort zone definetly looks like its around his stomach. Perhaps the hand grips can be adjusted to bring up the camera higher?

I'm sure that when you have time to put together a video all of my question marks will be answered. :)

Edit: I found another video on vimeo and it do looks like you have quick release function on the handles so that one can slide them up or down. :) I must say that I like the idea of having the battery on a quick-release belt. Will that solution be a part of the package?
