I believe it is...and / or is an issue of handling technique.

I have a helix and I love it...but it is indeed the learning curve on the software that is slowing things down. I have no prior experience with gimbals or areal shooting...so understanding what each option does and how to set them up properly is taking a little longer than expected.

One thing I'd like to emphasize was that clip was the FIRST time I picked up a Helix and it is not the REFINED version I have. I'll have better clips tonight for you guys.

I am no expert on the software, and probably will never be (by choice). But, it occurs to me that anyone wh hasn't looked at it might be overly intimidated by what they are reading here. The truth is, the Basecam software (and the Helix version is not very different) has a large number of parameters that can be tweaked. It is quite overwhelming to contemplate. But, in reality, most of them are very close to "correct" values when you receive the unit. The secret is that the small tweaks that are required to dial in the "correct" profile are interrelated and interdependent. This means that a large amount of trial and error will be necessary to get things perfectly (and, in this case, I am using that term somewhat literally). The good news is that this can be a broadly collaborative effort. While every Helix set-up is likely to be at least a tiny bit different from others, there will emerge some basic profiles that will work "out of the box" but which can also be tweaked (once familiar with the process and the effect of changing the various parameters) by the end user.

So, it is both complex and straightforward. Hien was, in fact, able to dial in a profile that is working very well with my Scarlet. Personally, I have yet to even touch a single parameter in the software. I may never have to if Letus keeps tweaking on my/our behalf. Then again, there will probably be a moment when I can't help myself.

Jason - I'd really suggest you go to Letus directly - Hien or GT. That way you are sure to have their latest magic. If I sent you mine, I can't be sure they haven't refined it even more since I got it.

I think it is on the Letus Helix private forum, if you are registered there.

Shot some more footage but the accelerometer was off therefore there was drift. Will film more footage tomorrow but i'm editing and uploading something for tonight. Here's some stills.

Also the Letus Helix is extremely durable.
UPDATE: Will post after calibration

The one thing we definitely need is a case. I'm wondering if you guys think getting a used Pelican 1610/1510 and cutting the foam insert yourself is a good idea? Essentially how hard is it to cut the foam?

The Helix case is pretty good. Here's what it looks like on the inside.

I highly recommend the Helix case. It is well priced for a custom case and works well. 1510 probably too small. If you have ever had to deal with the whole foam thing, it's a PITA. In the end, you will be better off with the custom one.

It definitely is not. Did you see his BS1 video's posted right after his Helix video? The BS1 video's are rock solid... So obviously he knows how to handle a gimbal.

I might get the Helix case then. But I found a used Pelican 1610 for $120, do you think getting good foam inserts would exceed the $400 price?

Yes custom cut foam is $$$. Custom cases from manufaturers for their own products may seem expensive at first. But they are in reality a huge bargain.

Here it is.

Absolutely no practice, first time handling the camera that got recorded, and posted. From beginning to end took me about 3 minutes. All I did prepare for the shoot was a shower before coming to the office. Any of you guys can do better than me.

Again, thanks for posting Hien. Says a lot about Helix when you - the designer - are willing to literally stand behind your product and do tests like this. Shows a level of character and pride rarely seen. And makes me proud and happy to be a customer.

best

You guys are very nice and easy to me. Thanks so much for the kind words.
