  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

Ok fellas' lets make it enough of this robust bench playing (juz' joke -lol),

This is just an event in which people compete. lets make it fair and have a heavy-hitter (letus) response on this issue.

Kwan - as you may know (or not?), right now Letus is delivering far more to the REDuser buyers than just the basic unit itself. That's not going to change. There are some future developments that might offer even further potential ownership benefits. But, that's the future. :wink:http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

Off the Topic....

Ah''' BTW, There is no way I am worrying about Walmart, Chinese manufacture or blah blah (lol)... I'm 110% confident that, all this factory assembly that the Chinese are performing is baby's play for the next generation of robots—which will soon become cheaper than human labor. So China has many reasons to worry, and manufacturing will undoubtedly return to the U.S.—if not in this decade then early in the next.

For example, Tesla (most advanced car company), manufacturing Model S in Silicon Valley (most expensive places in the country). Tesla can afford this because it is using robots to do the assembly.

At the end of the day, custom service and customer relation is the most important factor. Even though we have the best and most professional setting that take a camera from the tripod and make it going handheld (OK, I am biased) rather than taking it down from the helicopter and put a handle to it, or just simp copy the setting of the Movi (which all other gimbals do without a blink) , it would be expensive at $500 if you don't have a stellar customer support. We want to know our customers one by one and support them on a personal manner. We have now 8 people for custom relation and support, 3 in Kansas and 5 in Portland with 2 more maybe able to jump in as needed because they are designing some really cool stuff that will inch into DJI bread and butter, quad/hexa/octo copters. If you plan to have the gimbal going worry free like the film camera, then apparently you haven't used the Movi or other gimbals. One of the DJI dealer in Portland told me that they themselves have to wait 6-9 months for an exchange. With a dedicated person DJI placed in USA, it certainly helps, but then one is not enough for this kind of gear. They would need a team of 50-100 to match our classroom size. They will either do that and realize oops, $2999 couldn't cut it, or they will do what they do now and customers will suffer. Something gotta give. With current level of work putting, our price is too low to make it worth it for us, but we are counting on the experience gain in making it easier for us to complete a unit.

I'm not convinced of either, but I think it's an equally plausible explanation. (I also speculate that Movi managed to hoodwink the entire industry by virtue of being first to market, and they've been laughing all the way to the bank since. But maybe not.)

I completely agree on that one. When you are the only hammer in a town full of nails, you charge what you want. :smiley:http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

Hey Samir,

I tested the Helix 4th axis (16mm) mount on Proline Raven post and am sad to say it is a little large and so doesn't make a solid connection to the post.

I'm trying to find out the *exact* measurement (guessing around 15.5mm?) but am wondering if Heinl has any ideas on using a sleeve to make up the difference, or if I'm going to have to send the 4th Axis in for refitting with a different mount?

Raven owners, I'd wait until this is sorted before ordering 4th Axis...hope this helps.

Thank you,

The 4th Axis still sells the Helix for me. That's special. Being able to put it on a Steadycam or a Crane underslung is something I'm still very interested in...

I believe that was directed at Nick. I am still undecided on Ronin vs Helix but at the moment I have my preorder in for Helix and actually don't need a 4th axis and will probably be fine waiting for more of them to get out there and get tested either way. No rush here anymore. Will continue to save up for my Epic upgrade.

Paul,

We have:

0.74in plus (18.80mm)
0.625in plus (15.88mm)
0.495in plus (12.57mm)
And 21.40mm plus

If you would email me the exact size of your post using a good caliper, I can make one that fit it for you.

Thanks
Hien

I don't think you can say Movi "hoodwinked the entire industry". They had a lot invested in R&D and were first to market with a new product that may or may not have captured the industry's attention, which it ultimately did for them luckily. There are many examples of expensive technologies that cost an arm-and-a-leg when they first appeared; Steadicam, Wescam, LED film lighting, etc. Or even the Mercedes S-Class which has pioneered safety features for years. They aren't pirates.

Hey Everyone,
I am here at Letus with my Epic and the helix to show it off online for the demo today. Going on right now.

Hi Sean, looking forward to getting mine. BTW, off-topic, I like your website. It's a nice clean design. If you don't mind me asking, did you do it yourself/designer or is it via online template?

Amazing.

I gotta say, Heinle and Letus are killing it...

Just the right balance of technical knowledge, rapid prototyping and machining capabilities, an open "can do" attitude, crazy good customer support, and this doesn't even factor in a really well made cool and innovative product.

There's another gimbal maker whose GB I'm also a part of who could really take a page out of these Letus' book.

Thrilled to support this company...

Thank you,

While I wondered this myself, give credit where it's due...Freefly shipped a polished final product pretty expertly around 9 months earlier than the new crop of gimbals (although later than anticipated) that was reliable, easy to use but expensive.

The whole space continues to evolve which is great for everyone. I hedged my bet by getting into the 3 I felt had the most merit and am interested to see how it plays out and fully expect to like them each for different reasons.

Thank you,

Helix Fourth Axis and armposts

Hey Samir,

Thank you,

Like I said,
There are essentially just a few true standard sizes for arm posts that have been established and are/should be universally observed by manufacturers of "steadicam-like" rigs. Unfortunately, many of the knock offs and newer foreign offerings do not follow these standards which is unfortunate. The word "Steadicam" is rightfully owned by Tiffen by the way.
The sizes listed for the fourth axis will/should fit any of the true standard arm posts from Tiffen, PRO, XCS, Artemis, Innocinema and any others who are following the established standards. If you bought a less expensive knock off (and yes, they are knock offs because there are still many internationally patented parts that cannot be duplicated legally) or even something very well made from a foreign company that does not use these standards, you may be out of luck. A sleeve adapter might be fine but you may damage the bearing in your fourth axis in the long run by not having a proper fit.

Have there been any demos using the 4th axis adapter? I think this is one of the coolest aspects of the Helix but I haven't seen footage using it yet.

Sorry, I did not mean to respond to you directly. Just posted two videos i had not seen on ru. Later i did se that one of the clips where justins posted in another thread.

I want to se the four axis too since i dont plan to get a gimball an carry all weigt witous support.

I put my money on both the Ronin and Helix. I may keep both, sell one or sell both. It all depends on how well they perform. That said, all of the Helix footage I've been seeing is depressing. What's going on? Is this thing a SOB to calibrate ? Or just inherently not smooth? Confidence is low. I understand we're looking at growing pain footage but supposedly Helix's are shipping already. Which means we're beyond beta. So please someone post something that looks pro.
