  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Letus Gimbal

I agree 100% but the sad truth is HDMI is everywhere (whether we like it or not) so a vast majority of people looking at buying this rig would benefit immensely by having an HDMI port in addition to the SDI. Beats having to buy a cheap sdi to hdmi convertor box that needs power, etc.

Loosing a feed in the middle of a shot or worse, frying your camera is of benefit to nobody. That's my personal soapbox position; HDMI has no place on pro gear. Unless I got bad info or my old memory is shot, HDMI was created to carry content and viewer protection protocols. It was designed for the distribution of content and was never even meant for production equipment. Considering all of the flak that Red has endured for some of the more difficult descisions they have made I don't understand why they elected to compromise on this. With all of the shorted out connectors I have read about lately I have to imagine they are regretting that choice.

Did someone just sneak in an additional hour on the countdown clock? Before it seemed to be switching back and forth from a deadline of 3PM and 4PM. Now it says about 3-1/2 hours which puts it at 5PM. Hmmm... (all times PDT).

Annnnnnd....nothin'.....

looks like it's live now!

So this won't work on a multicopter then?

Woohoo!!

THREE pounds!

Can't tell if there is a way to mount a top handle for low slung shooting. Anyone?

There's a major additional piece to the puzzle that Hien was trying to describe for me by phone but I couldn't really absorb it without visual aids, lol. It sounds like it's fantastic though and I'm sure details will be coming ASAP.

Was it a flux capacitor?

I had the same questions..
I spoke to Hien yesterday and, and that is indeed the additional puzzle piece.
Hang in there...

Dear REDusers,

Again, thanks for all your support and patience.

This is our official announcement:

All day shooting with 3-axis Helix plus the 2 additional translational axis (up-down and left-right) that provides by a SteadiCam Vest and Arm (No poles needed).

We just create 2 additional pivotal axis on our 3-axis Helix, one coincides with the Yaw/Pan axis and one coincides with the Pitch/Tilt axis. The stub from the SteadiCam arm will be inserted into the new system making the Helix floating in front of you like a steering wheel. You can pan and follow pan, you can tilt and follow tilt and you can move the camera up and down, left and right.

Please go to letushelix.com for the complete details, pictures and latest updates.

Now, I am open for questions.

Thanks,
Hien

This rig looks very well made for its capacity, what I see right now, is a hand held rig though.

with the current configuration of axis, and with out additional axis , or a different frame configuration, I cant see this being functional to a jib, or a cablecam, or a multirotor, because there will be a gimbal lock in certain tilt angles ,and no pan capabilities.

so unless there will be an additional axis to this rig looks like its limited to hand held style shots. But maybe that is the additional puzzle piece.

never the less well made gimbal.

May not work on a copter, as shown, but I don't understand why you say there are tilt and pan limitations. From the videos I saw, it would seem one could easily set this up to tilt and pan, at least on a jib.

Yep that's what was needed . Looks really impressive where do I sign up ; ) !

LOL @ Zeb ....better than a flux capacitor.

Also a good news is that our custom motor will be here for the first batch. It's 32% more powerful than the any motor out there, that can structurally holds up to 20lbs and spin it. Before this invention, I tested the stock motor and it only could turn 16. It broke my back and the system still performed. I can advertise whatever with 3 axis because no one wants to carry more than 12 lbs in front, even though the Helix is the most compact one. Now, I have to be really careful advertise the pay load because you can shoot with whatever payload the system can support.

If you pay close attention to the pictures, the Helix can be just lifted up from the 4th Axis system and handheld, in applications like handing off through the windows, etc.
