Looking around the new board here for the DSMC and I'm noticing a little problem. Let's all not forget that Jim said that the DSMC is going to come out "late 2009", not 2008. Thankfully people are already starting wishlists, this is good, RED is awake and listening, the more input about what we want the better. For me, the one thing that will seal the deal is if the DSMC is either Medium Format or has an IMS or IMS-like mount so I can use any lense on it. In any case, RED has to break the 20 megapixel gap at the least, 30-40 megapixel is better, especially in that time frame.

I've also noticed a couple of slights at Canon and Nikon so far. It would seem a little hypocritical to spout constantly about the importance of "buying what you need now" for video cameras and not still cameras, particularly ones that have movie modes that people are wanting to use for their projects right now.

Take the D90 for instance. Granted the Nikon D90 isn't the ideal solution but it's available now for a decent price and it does the bare essentials all the while giving filmmakers what they want, clean 35mm DOF control and 24p HD plus giving the option for 12mp pictures. Who knows what Canon's going to announce next week, 1080p, 24p, whatever, if it even offers a decent movie mode that's good, it's a step in the right direction, as many have said already, and if it's better than the D90 movie mode, more power to it. I'll admit, I may pick one up immediately to replace my HV20, I need something better and, preferably, now. Granted, Scarlet's around the corner, but for many people these alternatives are looking pretty good, even if it's just going to be replaced by a Scarlet.
