I posted this in another spot but I really think it belongs here.

What is the highest number camera out? Is there really an achievable production schedule in place? I haven't heard anything but delays. I would like to think that Red sees us (the customers as reasonable adults). I think we deserve the truth from the start. If you know that a batch of cameras is going to take 2 months to get out, tell us. We are trying to juggle schedules and loans for a camera we haven't received yet. I am paying on a loan for something I don't even have a clue when I will receive. I think it is only fair to start letting the customers know a truly achievable production schedule for cameras and accessories. We don't want to be lied to so we are passified for a couple of weeks. How can you possibly be telling new customers that they will recieve a camera in July when you are so far behind. It is time to focus on the product that got you on the map, (Red ONE). We are all thrilled to see new products come online and for red to put sony and panasonic out of business but these things take time. FOCUS You are losing the faith of your loyal customers. I continue to be patient but leary. I feel you are taking advantage of your customers loyalty, and the news travels fast.

I think we deserve the truth from the start. . . . .

Lets be REALISTIC.
Red HAS been honest and truthful from the start.

By "We", I hope your not trying to include the many other Red reservation holders and owners out there.
Speak for yourself.

Lets be REALISTIC
Red did not compel you or force you to decide to take a loan out on something that you knew you were not going to receive right away.

That was YOUR decision, and not a very wise one in my opinion if that decision has ended up causing you so much stress and heartburn.

Be a little more patient. It come :innocent:

at one point Red was holding back shipping camera's because they didn't have bottom plates & other items ... customers said we don't care we just want our camera body ...
so if Red holds up shipping because they don't have all the parts they are going to get complaints ... if Red ships the camera body without other items they are going to get complaints ....
so i suggest that when one receives their notice they tell Red either ship EVERY item they ordered or nothing till all items are in stock or ship each item as they become available ..
today there are other options from 3rd party's to build your Red ...so we do have several choices ...

I'm as restless as everyone else and I want my camera yesterday, but lets realize that this is a learning process - for RED too. None of these guys has built a camera before (which can be a good thing) so they're learning by doing.

i think the point he is making is that everyone should lower their
expectations on delivery and expect more delays.. i know i am..

Oklahoma, Big Jon already answered this...

Others have made good points too.

Like donatello said, can't please everyone all the time. RED has delivered camera numbers ranging into the 1740's. #1740 himself posted pics the other day. It's a matter of who completes their orders and when they pay. Many earlier reservation #'s who held off on their purchase (because they were allowed to do so, RED policy) have decided to follow through now. RED has to work these orders into the rotation over the next few weeks (also policy). I can see where this could create a new surge of orders to process right now.

I know RED is swamped.. I've spent the last two days finalizing my camera order with RED. My bomb squad member (Randy) sends me emails at 9:30PM confirming changes -- they're definitely not keeping bankers' hours. There are parts that are out of stock (shoulder dovetail, bottom plate, possibly others). But most people still want their cameras and choose to wait on the accessories.

It's very harsh to accuse RED of lying to customers. They have kept us informed every step of the way (if you're paying attention). The only thing they haven't shared with us is actual sales data (how many cameras on order, how many have shipped, etc..). This is data they are under no obligation to share, nor would they be wise to do so in a public forum. It's hard to say how such numbers could be interpreted by the general community or spun by competitors. So here you have it... They're on a delay until they catch up with the current set of orders. Makes sense to me.

I suppose RED could have just ignored the issues at hand and sent out the next wave of emails, which appears to include your camera #; perhaps that's why you're grumpy? But if they had done so, they would only be increasing accessory shortages in relation to active orders and increasing the processing time between initial email and shipment. That helps no one.

this has happened before and it will happen again. i was due to get my camera in june (which will probably turn into july or august now) and the only thing i can say is "better late than never". the reservation holders before me deserve their stuff first.

i don't see much lying on RED's part...

Maybe you havent realized yet that you are being part of a process that is in constant change and evolution; for the best. Its not about screwing sony or panasonic, I think its another league. Its like making history, it takes time and patience. This doesnt mean I am eager to get the camera today (I even tried to stole it from the NAB) but I know that good things in life take time. You'll see.

That's a HUGE assumption on your part, Red Oklahoma. But I'm going to easily (ASS)(U)(ME) the opposite and say that Red Company are FOCUSING on what they need to and have been. They may have new products, but are you assuming that everyone is focused on that? But you know what I don't have to assume based on reality? They have their designated duties and they're not all involved in the R&D of Epic that isn't due until 2009 or in the R&D/Production of Scarlet. A lot of the red team is working hard on the production and shipment of the Red Ones. And you really do a disservice to them. (How would you like someone to sh*t on your own workday?) Jarred explained the delay... early reservation holders are calling in their Red orders. So I think it's only fair to Red and everyone else for you to be a little self-reflective and realize your impatient, hyper-critical attitude is more to do with the FACT that you messed up:
We are trying to juggle schedules and loans for a camera we haven't received yet. I am paying on a loan for something I don't even have a clue when I will receive.

It's easily known that you have 30 days to get things in order when your number is called. Therefore, you could have held off on your loan like I have and countless others. It's your fault you got the loan pre-maturely. :clown2:

I would just like to point out, has anyone ever written a complaining post to sony and expected a response? One of the luxuries of RED being a small company is that Jim himself reads and responds to the forum. Well he did until recently. We owe Jim the respect and courtesy he deserves for opening himself up to this forum. I know there have been delays but I feel like they've been honest and open about them and they seem to be mostly on the schedule they had set. I have a number in the 1700s and have been contacted about delivery and hopefully it will be finalized and shipped out soon. I received an email last night at 10:30PM from Dan about my order so it seems to me that someone's working hard to get these cameras out the door.

it's pretty insane that RED has continued to ship cameras at a steady even pace.. When they shipped my camera, I was ROUND 2 and I thought they were going to even slow down a bit.. but they haven't (except for the recent delay)

That's pretty amazing for a NEW camera company that started as dust in the wind

Give them some CRED

On the more constructive side... maybe you could pay off your loan and then reapply later? Hopefully there isn't a early payment penalty. Or explain the situation with the bank and say you'll borrow again soon. :)

Democracy or Benevolent Dictatorship...

Democracy or Benevolent Dictatorship...

Sorry... dictatorship is winning big here.

We will listen very carefully, but this is not a "vote for options" program.

If you want that, start your own company.

Jim

i know this has been posted for different thing .

But i think it is reminder for every one that Red has it's own rules

And if we don't give them what they deserve of excuses they have

ALL the rights to pause anytime ..

Well Red is still in beta. It's easy to forget because they're on the ball with Build updates and information. But, the fine print has always been...

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."
