Okay so I like the RED Lenses, but very curious as to what are some of the other lenses out there that look great with the RED?

I was looking into the Zeiss Super Speed or Cooke S4 series.

Any thoughts?

Here are a few listed in no particular order:

Prices and specs are from memory and at best approximate at wors wildly of the mark ... doublecheck them yourself.

Illuminas (t/1.3 ~$40000 USD)

Zeiss Compact Primes (t/2.1 - t/3.6 ~$36000 USD)

Cooke S4 (t/2 ~$80,000 USD)

Zeiss MK 3 super speeds (t/1.3, ~$40000 USD)

Angeniuex Optimo DP zooms (t/2.8, ??)

Leica Summilux-C (t/1.4, $180,000)

and so it goes

Older lenses look beautiful on Epic:

Cooke Speed Panchro Series II/III
Zeiss Superspeeds
Nikkor AI primes

They are all beautiful.

I love the Zeiss Standard Speeds the best. :)

The new Cooke Panchros are my personal favorite so far. I had a two camera shoot where we mixed Panchros and S4s between an Epic and an MX. The only time you could tell the two cameras or lenses apart was when we put the 18mm S4 on the Epic. It was distorting pretty badly in the corners. We slapped the Panchro 18mm on there and no more problems. I think we are fast approaching the limit to coverage on some of these wide lenses we have been using for years. 5K FF is putting them to the test.

I did try some old Panchros too, and the 100mm Deep Field Panchro blew me away! What a great piece of glass. I was really surprised at how good my old Angenieux 25-250 T3.2 looked on Epic. Of course there was some vignetting at 5K FF, but there was something special about that camera/glass combo. I also really like Canon K35s and old Kinoptik lenses. I just haven't tried them on Epic yet.

Good luck with your quest :)

Slightly OT here, but does anyone know someone who restores old lenses for a reasonable price?
