  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

lens upgrade time

50, 35, 85....on the wide or tele you can get a slightly different focal length if say, its not available on whatever brand you go with...but then you got a normal 50 FOV and also extremes on other ends...

PS depending what format your shooting on your red the field of view will change as one crops in for faster frame rates...my 8mm rokinon at 1k ws 400fps doesn't look like a 8mm at all.. FOV wise...so its something to consider like what is your usual shooting aspect ratio and how that will determine the corresponding field of view... if one is used to S35 lenses/one particular red aspect ratio the reality is this stuff can change FOV so easily by getting full frame glass, or shooting a different size aspect ratior/format/whatever you want to call it...a 50 is still a 50, but the FOV can change for a multitude of reasons...so i think its hard to say "you need these fields of view" to make a set... i mean heck most people i know who think that way live in a S35 FOV universe anyway, of which none of this glass is even that format...cuz it won't cover dragons on the wide... FOV with dragon can make for fun banter...

you should also consider a used zeiss LWZ (light weight zoom)
might be more versatile for your needs if you find you are a lone shooter most of the time.

+1 on that...being alone with no AC or DIT and primes just blows to be honest...i'm not efficient at all...at least the zoom helps make it a little bit easier...

Jacek,

After I have been researching about optitron, I got three questions.

1. Can we use this adaptor on red? If so, should we buy Red Canon adaptor and put optitron on it? or just attach optitron on the body?

2. Where and when Can we buy it?

3. I understood that Canon EF mount could be electronically controlled since there are many adaptors that I have seen like optitron, although the quality won't be like optitron. Yet, I wonder, how about nikon? Do you think You guys are going to make one for Nikon version? If so, I am going to sell all my lenses and moving on… for an adaptor :)!!!!

Lastly, since you guys are small crew based company, I guess you are following the innovational ideas. Here is the always hope that I have in my mind.
I understood there are many follow focus that needs a A.C or Focus puller. Yet, non of these many focus pulling system can't pulled by camera operator without "Zacuto, Snap Focus"

It's a shame that most companies in the film industry are still following follow focus system like 30 years ago - Look, this is iPad era!
I was wondering whether you guys could challenge to create a handle base follow focus, which won't interrupt recoiling of camera it self like "SNAP FOCUS"

I'm not sure I understand the last part but I'm pretty sure that the OptiTron does ALL you are asking about:
Controls RED Canon and Nikon adapters, mounts on the rods for one man, docu, shoulder mount work/genre as well as works with wireless receiver for remote, steadicam, crane, heli work
hope that helps...

Wow, if I understood this comment correctly, I could use follow focus for my nikon G lenses?

Wow...... you are right, this adaptor is revolutionary in that case. I hope I could see more video about the product though...

And don't forget the Sigma 18-35, you can get the GL rehoused version, from what I read its solid though I have to say that the standard one from Sigma is nice considering the price and it gives as much as you might get on any wide option

Actually, if I understood Jacek well, I could use 18-35 Canon or Nikon mount and use it like Cinemod lens, am I right? If so, I guess for a beginner like myself, would love to try Optitron.
I guess, I will try to rent them out firstly, and see how differences between Electronic follow focus system and traditional follow focus system, if it's not that different I feel like it's the perfect solution for me.

That's correct- you can use it like cinemodded lens but you get some additional features not available with cinemodded lenses.
You can expand your focus rotation infinitely.
You cam place the EFF anywhere on the camera. You can adjust drag on the focus knob to your liking. You can activate lens image stabilization if needed. You can go wireless...-some of these features come really handy....
