  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

[FS: OPTICS] Lens Upgrade (For Still Image Lenses)

Received my rings & caps today. Happy with my purchase. Definitely recommended for all still lens shooters on a budget to Cine-vize their lens fronts. A big advantage is the inner 77mm thread on the ring which can be helpful to mount ring filters, for those on a budget. Great product. Thanks Michael.

Hello again Michael. Your lens rings for the CP's and Nikons are doing fine. If you are going to do lens gears, grub screws on radial centres grabbing the lens barrel risk deforming the lens barrel and damaging the focus helicoid on some Nikons if the grease gets a bit old. The Nikon 14mm f2.8 does not like this arrangement at all. If you go for a two-piece tapered collet arrangement with assembly screws on axial centres bridging the tapered faces with half-threaded holes, there is a patent you may need to be aware of. It may be expired by now. There was a tapered collet pulley and flexible coupling system evolved by an outfit called Fenner-Dodge. It was called the Fenner-flex coupling. I first encountered these in 1970. This arrangement would be an absolute ideal for attaching lens gears non-destructively to stills lenses. IN the diagrams, the blue centres are the tapered collets, a simple collet with a single slot to permit a compression fit onto the shaft as the collet is compressed into the matching tapered hole in the coupling disk or pulley it is machined into. They run true. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=f...-OsftiAeNtYGoDA&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=698 The screws work two ways. One pair of holes are used for tightening. The other pair of holes have the half-threads reversed and become the method of cracking the taper for dismantling.

Hello Michael. Any updates on the focus rings (and maybe even aperture rings) ?

Hey Michael,

I messaged you a couple of days ago about ordering 5 more of your awesome rings. Just wanted to check that your inbox is not full or something as I have not heard back. Cheers, Adam

EDIT: Thanks Michael for sorting it out. A Pleasure as always!

Sorry, haven't checked here in a very long time. Unfortunately, I currently don't have any lens caps and also don't know if I will get more anytime soon. I lost the supplier of the plastic blend I'm using to make the caps and haven't had time to experiment with other blends. However, I have plenty of Cine Rings in stock.

I got some alternative standard 80mm caps. Soft touch surface, and good fit for the 80mm Cine Rings. How does it compare to the original Cordvision Cine Cap? The Cordvision Cine Cap is a bit more rugged but has a less uniform surface finish. Both caps work perfectly well to protect your lenses. Picture of this alternative cap is attached below (one advantage is that there is no logo on the front, so it makes it easy to attach your lens label).

$14/each for Redusers (PM me). Shipping is $17 (US and International). Will ship the caps with priority mail (incl. tracking) directly from Switzerland. Shipping takes approximately a week.

Just got more original Cordvision Cine Caps in :)
They also have a very tight fit which lots of people like about them (I don't see them falling off in your lens case).
$16 each for Redusers. Pm me if interested.
