And good luck with your focus...

Wait, are you saying that 100 or so people couldn't sit in the same room and watch two people have sex and not have the urge to touch themselves until they got home?

But for what kind of shots? Who would use 300mm and why? What kind of look can be accomplished using 300mm as opposed to using 15mm very close up to the subject? Is it more DOF?

I don't mean to burst your bubble but if you do not know the answer to these questions you are not ready for this camera. Save your money and buy a hvx or ex1 or something. These are very basic questions and the camera is so much more complex in so many ways then this.

Your input it in appreciated, but I've already set my mind on getting this camera. How else will I learn to better myself without the use of complicated equipment? :)

ASSISTANT! I don't need no stinkin' assistant!

My typical shoot consists of Me (The director, cameraman, producers, creative force, etc, etc) and the talent in the scene.

Typical 3 people, 4 or 5 at most if its an "orgy" type scene.

I will prove the movie making world wrong that you don't need 100 people on set to make a great movie!

HAHAHAHAHA You're up for a cold shower and you can't have that in your business can you? But I guess everybody has to learn in it the hard way HAHAHAHA

I love to prove people wrong.. I'll be posting on here somewhere about my exploits as they happen!

A few of my close friends made a movie with a crew of 5 (including the 2 directors and the cinematographer) which was in Sundance in 2006. You don't need to have tons of people on set to make good work. You just need to know what you're doing.

But then again, they had a very talented AC on set... that and a great Gaffer.

I completely understand what you want to do, but there's a few things that might be good for a reason. The red camera you can handle yourself if you want to, but you don't want to. Focus can be made by yourself but you will find it much more "in focus" if you don't.

Understand that no one of us really cares if you can do it yourself. We all can do it ourself. It's just a different camera and a completely different ball game. We choose to follow that ball game for the simple reason that it gives the best result.

Now you ask us questions and people are willing to to answer you. If they make the suggestion that you should consider an AC or that maybe the camera is a little to much for you there's a reason for it. Just like you don't ask a guy, who doesn't have a drivers license, to drive a race in a Ferrari.

This camera is complex and these lenses need good focus pulling. You can do it yourself but before you boost about it understand the complexity of it. Take a DSLR camera put in a 50mm lens and then go loose with it and try to focus manually while you walk with it - if you can keep it 100% focus at all times you will impress me for sure. With a good AC you would. That's the difference.

By the way I hope your postings will be footage

I fully understand your post, and maybe I'm just talking shit a little bit... and my humor gets over looked. I'll obviously have more people on board when shooting my feature, but it won't be the typical huge number of people you see on most sets.

I'll have the least number of people needed to accomplish the tasks I require.

i.e., everyone will be wearing multiple hats.

I find that on sets with MANY people, things get confused a lot and time gets wasted... that may be due to the person incharge of everyone's duties isn't competent enough, who knows.

And I would LOVE to post footage of my shoots... but I think a lot of the "interesting" stuff, isn't allowed.

Let's see - after all the "moderation" is controlled by RED themselves.
RED, please :help: us on this one :innocent:

As for the "big crew" thing. No one says that it has to be a big crew but just as you don't want to leave out the sound guy you don't want to leave out the AC, for example.
There are certain things with the RED camera that will make DV users surprised, simply because it has the characteristics of a movie cam. Just as some of the characteristics will give the movie people a thought, because it's more towards video.

Hey Xaidenx,

Your AVATAR idea is superb.

(Just can't make out what is what)

Ha. Oh it's rendition of a character from those thumb movies, ie. thumb wars.

I always say my head looks like a thumb, so I removed my face from my head, and pasted it back on smaller.

Understood. I know nothing about sound, so I will definitely have a sound guy (or two) there.

Basically what I'm saying is, all the important people will be there, I just won't have "Stan the guy who flips the light switch on once in the 18 hour day".
