  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lens suggestion

I'm not trying to be an ass Xaiden, but you have been making some contradictory statements.

Let's start over. What are you going to be using this camera for? What kind of budgets are you going to have for your shoots?

back to the topic, today i saw the red 18-50 mm...it looked nice, but the focus ring was not so smooth, and the glas is slightly moving out of the housing
( my fault, my english, you should understand) if you change from 18mm to 50 mm.

I was told,that
This means that air is pumped into the lens while doing it, hence dust etc can enter this type of lens------

And the CF Card Module looked a little unprotected and a little too big for the CF Card....another Problem if shooting in Dusty places.

And the Connectors doesnt have a protection.

With a cine lens, its sharper, and has a shallower DOF than your HVX, it has a different look and feel for focusing than a prosumer camera would.

Hmm. sorry if I've made contradictory statements, everyone is capable of making mistakes.

First off, I'll be using it to practice on mostly, and then I will be shooting my first Adult Entertainment feature movie with it. I have an unlimited budget, I suppose.

Hmm.. doesn't sound very good, since I would like to do some of my practicing shooting out in a dry lake bed, where there will be lots of dirt and dust floating around..

How, in Hollywood, do they accomplishing shooting in these environments while protecting their equipment, without compromising the shots?

Some sort of "rain coat"? I think I saw a thread about someone asking RED for one, and maybe a third party was interested in producing them.

I think I could manage making a contraption myself to protect, but then again. I'm no scientist, I don't know if what I will make will suffice.

I haven't worked on any adult films, but I'm guessing that some close-ups might be a problem with 35mm depth of field. Either way if you are money conscious, then just get the 18-50mm for practice. It's your best deal out of any PL mount lens out there. You'll get a better idea of what you'll need for shoots after you've practiced with that. Renting lenses for productions will be your best bet. That way you can tailor your glass to what best suits your shooting situation. I really suggest getting both the EVF and the LCD. There are situations where you'll want both. The EVF is better for handheld, outside shooting, and is your best quality monitoring options. The LCD is good for low handheld shots and big pans, like 180 degrees.

I would also suggest hiring a quality AC. They will be able to weatherize your camera against sand and rain.

Thanks, good info! I however use the LCD for handheld, and ALL aspects of shooting, but maybe that is just because that is what I learned on.

What do you mean by close-ups might be a problem with 35mm DOF?

I mean your penetration shots might be out of focus and we know that you can't have that!

As far as handheld goes, with the HVX you hold the camera out in front of you. With the red you hold it on your shoulder. LCD works great for out in front, EVF works great for on your shoulder.

Ahh, right. No I would use a wide angel for all of my sex shots.

Is the RED impossible to be hand-held?

AC = Assistant Cameraman

ASSISTANT! I don't need no stinkin' assistant!

My typical shoot consists of Me (The director, cameraman, producers, creative force, etc, etc) and the talent in the scene.

Typical 3 people, 4 or 5 at most if its an "orgy" type scene.

I will prove the movie making world wrong that you don't need 100 people on set to make a great movie!

Good luck with that Xaiden. Like I said, get the 18-50mm and mess around with it.
