I'm deeply annoyed that RED isn't supporting Image stabilisation on lenses that have it. It's nice to talk about 8K and 16+ Stops of Dynamic range, but when it comes to handheld footage, resolution just disappears. If all other manufacturers of EF-Mounts or Adapters such as Blackmagic, Panasonic, Metabones, etc.. can do it: SO CAN RED.

I love the footage that comes out of the RED system, but anything related to focussing and lens stabilisation is just YEARS behind. Autofocus is a joke, Punch-in-zoom while recording? Forget it. 3 Seconds to punch in to verify focus? Pain in the ass. Peaking? Non existent. Do i really have to mount another HDMI monitor to get these features?

Agreed. I’d love to have IS on the new telephotos from Sigma and Tamron (150-600) which are now not that new. Lens functionality seemed to take a back burner a while back. A renewed and updated current list would be awesome.

Their lens protocols do seem to work for any genuine canon glass...

Now as for your request for punch in and peaking while recording I have started to use the SmallHD Focus recently and I’m pretty impressed with the ease of use and functionality on that front. So yes, maybe you need a second monitor. I know that’s not the answer you’re looking for but they make the focus in both hdmi and sdi flavors.

Hi Kyle, thanks for your honesty.
Sadly canon doesn't produce a stabilized 24-70mm 2.8. I'd pick one up immediately.

As for your SmallHD Focus recommendation, i can understand that. but hey, that's another 500$ and another 300g. And the RED doesn't even output 4K through HDMI or SDI. So a punch in 1:1 is basically a doubling of the size of the image? that's not enough for critical focus in my opinion.
Every other camera can to punch in IMMEDIATELY to 100% or even 200% WHILE recording. Is RED's Chipset too slow? I thought i bought the best of the bunch. The WEAPON! Depending on the responsiveness of the Touchscreen one would think that we're still back in 2007.
If i have to rely on the Label on my Camera to know that this camera is "PROFESSIONAL" instead of having the experience of a camera that i can actually USE professionally then i'm not sure who they are catering for.

These are little Problems, but they are crucial little problems to EVERY shoot. I don't know how other Operators deal with this and not get deeply frustrated.

Here's my solution: A small window overlayed on screen that has a 100% or 50% punch in. Let me move that Area by tapping on an area of the image. done.

IS does work on Canon lenses though, right? Also some have told me they've used the Sigma 24-70 ART OS and that works?

Hi Michael

I can confirm that OS on the Sigma Art 24-70mm does NOT work.

Do not turn IS on while recording or the camera will hang. Yep, just did with my Canon 24-105mm f/4. Had to hard reset to shut down and the recorded file is unreadable in camera playback. (S-W 7.0.3)

Hey Audy, seems like even the Canon support is spotty. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi, I'm looking for a fast 24 70 stabilized right now.
Somebody have tested the new Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 ?
It seems like the old one but it's the OS supported by RED ?
Thanks

IS from the lens is just not working for real videography. It keeps the image and then boom , jumping on the other round of IS, and booom, jumping and repeat...

Sorry Christian, but I do not understand what you are saying...
IS is never working for Cinematography or lens IS is not working on
Red cameras?
Lens IS can be used with good results for cinematography, even if its not
a "classic tool" it an be used to good effect. Just like any other tool you need to fully
understand how it works and what it can and can't do.
The fluid in camera movements on my 70-200 have been used successfully to add some
movement to a close-up shot when there was no time to rig a dolly or slider.
If you try to use the same lens and same settings on a handheld shot following an actor
jumping across a fence, you will not get exploitable results.

I just got my Tamron 24-70 f2.8 g2, and sadly it doesn't work with my Red Raven, neither changing the f stops or stabilization. I just updated a firmware to 7.3.0 and still nothing. :(. Hope this will help.
