First all of you are great at your insight and information on all these subjects. I have a "on a budget" lens puzzle for you.

I bought Zeiss CP.2's Compact Primes not Super Speed. I had a budget to buy a less expense still camera lens and get all the primes and zoom but felt the CP.2 cinema lenses , that cover the entire 35mm sensor, might be a better idea. But my budget only allows me to get three of them. I already bought the 21mm and the 50mm Macro. I can only afford one more and not sure if I should get the 85mm or the 100mm or?

Can anyone advise me on if they could only have 3 prime lenses and the first two are 21mm and 50mm macro, what would be the third?

I don't have a zoom but when I need one I will just rent a nice zoom like maybe the Angenieux Optima 24-290mm or ?.

Thank you

Gary

Hate to be a downer, but if money was tight and you wanted Zeiss, I would have gone the ZF.2 route. Same optics and cheaper.

The answer to your question... 85mm.

I know but from what I had read the ZF.2 did not cover the full 356 mm sensor so I thought I would get a better shot with the bigger lens. But I have been wrong before. :)

Talked to Matthew about the ZF.2's and I was wrong they do cover the full 35 mm sensor. But I have a PL mount which means I would have to spend the money to change mounts and now I am in the middle of the CP.2's so I will just get the 85mm. Thanks Bob

Depends on what you like -- I use 100mm focal length more often than 85mm. And the 100mm makro is one of the best performing lenses in the CP range.

Thanks Nils. I kept going back and forth on 85mm or 100mm macro. I called up Matthew at Duclose and after talking with him for a bit and since I bought the 50mm Makro, he suggested the 85mm. But next on my list will be the 35mm and the 100mmm makro.
