I am going to buy a Rebel xti but I'm wary of buying it with the kit lens because I'm not fond of the quality.
At Costo, they have the Xti bundled with the kit 18-55mm PLUS a Canon 55-250 lens for $850.
Does this added lens make it worth it?

What I'm looking for is a lens that will produce sharp images, and vibrant colors. Colors are extremely important. I love macro photography, but I will also be doing a lot of traveling so a quality all purpose lens is ideal for me.
I was considering a Tamron 18-250mm but I am on a budget and ideally I'd like to spend slightly less on the lens. Maybe closer to the $250-300 price range.

Any reccommendations would be very helpul.

The extent to which color rendering varies between lenses is really overstated; coatings might make one lens bluer or one more orange (every so slightly, pretty much imperceptibly) but a tiny shift in white balance or adjustment in post negates this difference and all recent (half decent) multicoated lenses offer nice vibrant colors.

CA in corners can be an issue, but easy to fix in post and overrated as a concern. Spechtrochromatism CAN be an issue and that's what makes images "pop" a bit more... the out of focus areas on very fast lenses can take a magenta/green tint slightly, but this also makes them look smoother for portraits. The 50mm f1.2 and 85mm f1.2 L lenses have a lot of this color shift for a smooth background; the Otus has very little. All have nice color. That has more to do with light.

The current 18-55mm IS and 55-250mm IS are phenomenal optically. They are not that durable, nor are they very fast, but optically they are wonderful, on par with most L lenses in terms of color, sharpness, etc. Not great for low light, of course, not as mechanically strong.

I dunno about what your shooting style is etc but if I were you I would just get the body (probably cheaper on amazon) and then go on keh and get some canon FD or contax primes for more or less the same price and use them with an adapter.

Personally I can't stand the 18-55 or the other plastic canon zooms

Why? They are optically fantastic and actually autofocus. Only bad if you want shallow depth of field or a soft, vintage look.
