Hello, I did some shooting this weekend with some amazing Master Primes from ARRI, and I was wondering if there is anything similar or better for Vista Vision that you guys recommend.

I appreciate all the suggestions to get the best image possible.

I have right now some Leica-R from GL Optics and they look beautiful, but I want something even better.

Best

Rodrigo

Rodrigo,

If your looking at the best check out the Leica Thalia lens range. You could also look at Panavision's Primo 70 lenses or Cooke S7. Geoff Boyle from CML just published some sweet tests of the Cookes

It’s pretty cool article, to bad they don’t use the S7 or other lenses out there also. Thanks for the link

I am hoping to test the Cooke s7s , the Thalias and also the Hawk 65 anamorphic soon on my Monstro. If I get some interesting insight I will share of course

Hi Rodrigo

What is it about MPs that you loved...? If you can qualify I and others maybe could better suggest the closest match!? Where you shooting deep or wide open for example.

MPs are fanstasic lenses in many ways but for me with the move to vistavision some of their qualities are maybe not as needed (some would argue that even at s35 they are too much)... for example the signature primes from ARRI do not follow the MPs look and feel...superficially to me they actually seem like a blend of Cooke and PV.

The S7s are very very easy to use and make attractive images and the difference in Dof terms between 8k monstro and 6k dragon is about 1stop.. they also cover a little bigger than Monstro where some of the other option 'just' cover

Peter...I'd love to see the monstro hawke 65 combo!.. are they 1.3x?

Ps I suspect with both the dev of large format and smart lenses nobody will ever make lenses quite like MPs again..

I love the clear crispy image I saw on them, of Course the construction and how they felt is great, but all I care is image quality. It just looked pretty damn nice the colors, skin tones, everything just looked better.

When you find a better lens then the Zeiss Otus 85, I would love to know.
(For me the best image possible is resolving power, no added color and no chroma, the rest can be done in post).
