The title kind of says it all...wanted to share this mean portable setup I have been running and gunning with around spain.

The glass is a very rare (one of two hundred I believe) Leica R 35-70 2.8 zoom lens that was made by Leica but apparently the cost to build them was more
then what they were selling them for. Optically its an incredible piece of glass, I love the Leica look and feel...the images both very sharp with a smooth roll out,
its hard to describe but hope to post some images soon. Having fun with the macro capabilities as well, The images really shine when you do a little Redcine pro magic on them, the flairs are kind of washy but with a curve added it creates a really interesting look. I notice I get that EPIC streak a lot with this particular lens and I need to control that better, wasn't there some solution from RED or 3rd party?

This thing is mint, dont think it was ever used...lucked out on this one.

I also got the wooden camera AB mount, Ryan shipped it in the nick of time for a shoot and I really appreciate his service and products. This is a great piece of kit, its works very simple...clipe on mount, clip on battery...what more can I ask for. It comes with bolts to hard mount it but so far I am just using it without so I can quickly swap the mount out if I dont need it, not sure if thats good or bad but it appears to be working just fine. I am not using a lot of weight but I like the form factor of the HC 90 AB batteries, they are compact and last long and travel (airplane) friendly. I will time exactly how much they last on tomorrows shoot.

Sorry for this brief post but will update when I can, shooting in the country of spain at the moment so internet is spotty. The locations are breathtaking.

cheers

Clay

Nice Clay, legendary lens with the right 5-lb camera behind it.

No sweat Dane, yours for only 11 grand.

Amazing!!!

Show us the Bacelo(netta) Beach footage ASAP!!!! :biggrinjester:

Also you must get Leica-R Vario Elmar 21-35mm f/3.5-4.0 and the you are fine.

Those both lenses have the same optical value as the Leica primes and even more...!!!

So you have a Leica mount on the Epic? When was this zoom built?

I believe he has the Ti Canon Mount on there David. The black locking ring gives it away.

Cheers David.

Hey David, no this is the canon Ti mount from RED and I just stuck a leica R to EOS click on adaptor to test the glass before deciding if I want to do a more pro cine mod. I was thinking about getting an R mount which cine-mods makes but I happened to finally take delivery of my Ti canon mount which as many others have mentioned, is extremely well engineered and rock solid. I have yet to test it with actual canon glass but will do soon.

David,

Get Novoflex Leica R to EOS adaptor and you are just fine to mount any Leica R on Epic/Scarlet Canon EOS mount..

If you just want to test a lens on the cheap I would go with this option from fotodiox and save yourself a couple of hundred dollars. Its clicks right on and any play or give or might have, the canon Ti mount from RED screws down on the lens PL mount style so its all rock solid in the end. Of course this is not my end solution.

The gold standard for those looking to convert R glass to EOS is the one from leitax.com...same one Duclos will use when I send my lens in to get it modded.

Damn you Clayton! I've been working on the set of primes. Just picked up the 35 and 50 Summiluxes and have been ready to pull the trigger on the rest for the last few days but have been hesitant for some reason... LoL.

+1 for the Leitax... I had the FotoDiox before and nothing comes close to the Leitax... when you combine that with the Red Eos mount you have a very solid foundation!

Congrats on those lenses Christopher...look forward to hearing some feedback about them. Yes I will go Leitax soonish...just in remote parts of world at the moment. ;) Cheers.

NICE!!! Congrats! Can't wait to get my Scarlet. I have a 24 elmarit, 35/2 summicron waitng for her. And a 80/1.4 coming my way. Trying to get the 21-35 as well.

Clay, when can I come and hang out on one of your shoots? Would love to see that beautiful glass at work. Good score with that one!
