Hi guys,
sorry if this post is in the wrong thread.
I am thinking about to buy a LEICA TRI-ELMAR-M 1:4/16-18-21 mm, but Red says that m lenses from leica under 50 mm are not compatible with the scarlet w.
Did any of you have experience with this problem? Is it maybe possible to go under 50mm?

Thanks for reading,
Finn.

Somebody's probably tried it, but as far as I know no-one's mentioned having done so.

Generally speaking, with the Leica-M lenses, if the rear lens element extends beyond the chrome bayonet mount at the rear of the lens, the light coming in through the lens won't be able to hit the camera sensor at a straight enough angle to give an un-distorted image.

From the pictures of the 16-18-21mm TRI-ELMAR I've seen, it would physically fit on the camera, but at the wide end would be subject to the same vignetting/discoloration/image-smearing around the edges of the frame as the rest of the wide-angle Leica-M lenses.

The interesting thing though is that at the 21mm setting, it looks like the lens might actually perform alright, as the rear lens element is further from the sensor than any of the other wide angle Leica-M lenses.

Definitely test one out before buying though, as the lens will almost definitely not give completely acceptable results when used on a RED camera.
