  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Leica R-EF Mount Lenses with EF Motion Mount

I use the Leitax EF setup on my Leica R's with a MM almost every day for months at a time and have no issues if using the MM at or below about 4 stops... when you use the MM to ND at more or higher values than 4 stops I have noticed that there can be a bit of color shift from the MM but Im talking about 6 plus stops of ND from the MM so your really asking a lot from the MM at that time.
Using the MM with the faster Leica glass is supper useful as you would have to stack a bunch of ND on top of the lens to get some of the soft background effects with out the MM, and to have to change those filters everyrtime you change lenses or have a heavy matte box on the front all the time makes up for some of the drawbacks in color shift.
I hope this helps. Plus the MM has IR filtration built in so you don't need to adjust so much for IR pollution if your adding 3 or 4 stops of ND.
I can't be sure but sometimes I have noticed that the broken or soft background of the image seems more soft or distorted than normal when using high numbers when using the MM... Might be my issue not the MM though.. I haven't had time or the ability to check it out or repeat the issue consistently to make any comment. I only say this here to see if anyone else has noticed this when using the MM at higher than say 4 or 5 stops of ND only in the MM.

Thanks Russ for the information. I am glad to hear that you haven't had any issues. I was concerned that some of the wider lenses might scratch the MM glass.

I haven't heard anything about wider lenses scratching or reaching in to the sensor or MM box to cause problems... I do remember mentioned that most of the Leica M series lenses that were wider might not fit in to the sensor box but that the R's should be OK... You should always check to see if anyone else has had issues like your doing here.
I can say with out a doubt that I use my Leica 19mm version 1 with out a problem and a 24mm 2.8, 28mm 2.8, and 35mm 1.4 all Leica, all no issues with the MM.
