Let's revive this thread.

Question for all of you Leica specialists again. So about the 19mm again. I know that version 2 was an improved optical formula but then again what does that exactly mean in the result image. Will the new version be sharper, less CA, less flare etc? Sometimes newer is not always better... so would the newer version be all of the above but still give you the Leica look or will you be loosing some of the Leica look for something more clinical then version 1.

I know in some places online I have seen that version 1 has some color fringing. But I have also seen some videos where I do not see that so I am still confused. :blink:

Samir, I have the new 19mm. I consciously decided to splurge on that one instead of the newer 90mm, and am happy with my decision. After doing much research (only online, and testing one older 19mm from a friend) I decided since my goal was to get an all purpose, neutral set of primes, I didn't want the blue blown highlights of the original 19mm. I also found the new 19mm to be very sharp edge to edge.

Plus, I like boggling all my AC's minds with the built in filter wheel. Someday, I will use the YG filter to shoot something.

Samir, you really want the new version, believe me.
Leica look all the way but with an incredible resolution for that focal length.

I use 19mm V1 and think it fits nicely in with the look of the rest of my Leica's.
I use a Leitax to EF mount and can use it on DSLR's if I want. I've heard that V2 protrudes too far in an can hit the mirror.

R 70-180 kicks ass all around, better than the nikon & canon 70-200. It also holds focus thru the zoom.

don't forget the 35-70/2.8 extremely rare but a wonderful lens.

I joined the Leica R party late after picking up the 60mm and 100mm 2.8 macros this year. Got carried away and bought 3 of each for a project, lol. But wow, the color rendering, the Leica look. Used to think of Leica R's as overpriced still lenses.

28-90 is great. It is my 28 "prime" between 19 and 35. Great optically. Buttery smooth and long focus throw. If I'm shooting f5.6, very often this zoom stays on camera for entire jobs. I so wish it would be 2.8 constant...
