Hi, not sure if anybody posted about this or not but I was just searching the net and found out that Leica had discontinued the Noctilux 50mm f/1.0 lens back around in June. I know that there had been talk about trying to get this lense on a RED One (particularly from the posts about the IMS mount with Leica M adapter) but it's truly a shame that it will be even more difficult for someone wanting to shoot with this legendary lense, especially if it ends up going up in price beyond its base of $5,000! <=(

It was discontinued. There is enough backstock for a short while. While yes it is the pride of Leica, what they have found is that the lenses end up selling as used quite often and so the demand for brand new ones is very low. Also the glass and material needed to make this lens have become prohibitively expensive in the last few years.

I have it from a very high authority there will be a new model coming out soon. Possibly with a new 75 1.4 that was also discontinued not to long ago.

Alsi I heard that Leica preparing a brand new 24mm f/1.2 (!?) for Photokina in Cologne 2008.

We will see if it's true.

BTW, Noctilux is made in Canada, ELCAN Midland Factory.

The new Leica owners are two Austrians and the main Leica factory is still in Solms, Germany.

Maybe is not making sense for them to have orders in Canada any more.

If they do a new 24/1.2, 50/1.0 and 75/1.4... Something with a Leica mount is starting to look very tempting.

Yep, the f1.0 was discontinued in June of this year. The last 100 were shipped in these cool boxes:

When new Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 Lens is as soon as available I will borrow from the shop and test it on my IMS RED combo.

Stay tuned.

Whatever you do, don't move! This lens will be fantastic for night establishing shots but I doubt there is any chance of holding focus on a subject without considerable focus buzz.

Thanks Evin.

I'll keep in mind.

The gearing on the current nocitlux is about 90deg from 1m to 3m and maybe 150deg to infinity.
