I noticed the comment on the Leica mount page:

http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc-al-leica-m-mount

"NOTE: Due to tolerance restrictions, we strongly advise users not to mount any Leica M lenses that have a focal length of 50mm or less."

which I guess means that the 'only' Leica lenses that can be used are 75mm, 90mm and 135mm lenses.

Hmmm :001_huh:

There's already discussion about this in the recon/nab 2012 thread announcing the mounts.

I already had posted about this, and it has been specified, that really with so many variations of Leica M glass, all of the lenses which have no protruding back element will fit the mount, even the 50mm of course, and I too have ordered the RED LEICA M mount to use also the 50mm, especially the NOCTILUX 50mm f/0.95 which of course will work like a charm on the M mount form RED... ;)

I've been staring at pictures of rear elements... in Ken Rockwell's Leica lens overview.

Looks like all the 50mms will fit (not protruding).

Also looks like the older, non-asph 35mm Summicron f2 will fit... While the newer ASPH-versions do protrude.
The cheaper 35mm Summarit f2.5 also looks like it'll work.

Anything wider than 35 looks like a no-go. Protusions everywhere.

I would be soooo happy if RED offers a special mod (i would gladly pay for it) or standard to make the sensor filter 'gate' bigger and deeper so that we can fit all the lecia m lens, when we upgrade to Dragon.
It's a big chance for RED to upgrade this, ---- that distance to accommodate shutter mirrors .beam splitters for optical view finding. is redundant for this sort of design. This will drive the cost of lens down with simpler and less glass, just as good as the best. 'RED lens next generation'
don't know seems like the future and it's logical.

Definitely looks like my

- 50mm f1.4 summilux asph
- 75mm f1.4 summilux (an older lens)

will fit - no protrusion past the rear flange.

Jarred or anyone with the mount, is there any space or tolerance between the mount and the camera ? Would for example a 35mm f1.4 summilux asph (1994-2010 edition), which has a 4mm protrusion, fit on the mount??

Thanks

Michael
