Leica-M mount lenses on EPIC

Thanks for all the interest. We knew we were on to something with this concept. The production version of the mount is being submitted to Red for approval and we hope to receive word on this very shortly. In the meantime we have tested a number of lenses on the Epic and the imagery is staggering! One must understand the whole concept of uncompromised optical design as opposed to "retrofocusing" lenses developed to clear flip-up or rotating mirrors to appreciate the advantage that these lenses enjoy. Yes, the number of lenses are limited at this stage because of clearance issues behind the mount. We hope this also may be addressed in the future. At this time the following lenses can be mounted.
35mm Summarit F2.5, 50mm Noctolux F.95, the Tri Elmar 16-18-21 used at 20 and 21mm and all lenses whose rear element does not extend past the rear-most bayonet tangs. The other attraction of the Leica M front is that this will be the shortest back flange distance possible and there are adapters Leica M to just about any interesting full frame 35mm still lens out there, so in effect all these lenses can be Leica M mount lenses.

This sounds awesome. If RED approves, we'll definitely buy. Any word on compatibility with the previous f/1.0 Noctilux?

Ron,

thank you very much for doing this and I hope RED will approve the mount soon.

Also Leica Noctilux 50mm M f/0.95 ASPH is a unique lens and someone could shoot a whole movie with only that lens.

Exciting times are coming.

Although Noctilux can be mounted on several different cameras like Sony F3, FS100, GH2,... even on RED1MX or Alexa but only Epic 5K has enough resolution and DR to get the best image out of this extraordinary lens.

Looking forward to se the test footage.

In between enjoy Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 on RED1-M (RED firmware was Build No. 15, October 17, 2008) >>> LINK >>>

For my LEICA friends with Love........

Thanks Jiri,

it could be a great lightweight (Weight: 471g) super-fast manual focus lens for Epic.

I tested older (first) version of Nokton 35mm f/1.2 and it was fuzzy wide open

but newer version 2 could be much better.

With this lens, Nokton 50mm f/1.2 and Voigtlander 75mm f1.8 Heliar M mount lens you can ger a budget fast and lightweight M lenses for Epic.

You don't need always a bit "expensive" Leica M lenses that you can't buy these days any new just because Leica is still busy with "grinding" a lot of Summilux-C lenses.

with my limited knowledge I am just wondering.... ok the summilux 35mm is pushing too deep. I was wondering about the backfocus of the sensor.
Can the sensor be adjusted back to get the flange distance correct for these lens?

Lenses that are mountable with the Spacecam Leica M Epic Mount are:

The Tri Elmar 16-18-21 set at 21mm
The Tri Elmar 28-35-50mm (all 3 focal lengths useable)
The 35mm Summicron T2,
The 35mm Summarit F2.5
I just want to make special mention of the 50mm F.95 Noctilux...jaw dropping performance even wide open!
All lenses over 35mm are useable on the Epic.

Now in addition we are offering a specially modified and prepared Voigtlander 12mm F5.6 Super Wide Heliar for use on the Leica M mounted Epic. This lens and our other Epic accessories can be seen on our webstore at www.spacecam.com

Canon > Leica adaptor for Scarlet?

Canon > Leica adaptor for Scarlet?

Very exciting! Any chance of a version for Scarlet w/ Canon mount? Any hope for AF / iris control if so?

The answer is NO way to get Noctilux on Canon DSLR cameras because FFD (Flange Focal Distance) of Canon EOS mount is 44mm and for Leica-M is 27.95mm.

Leica is strictly manual focus and aperture control. No way around that.
