  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Leica Lens Resolution test...

Graeme,

Do you think the 4300 lines of resolution by the Epic/Leica combo is limited by the lens or the sensor? With an 8K sensor would the number go a lot higher?

Tony

Not having the Leica lenses, but the RPPs, I'd say: any modern lens is getting challenged by an EPIC!

Even with the R1 I can see very clear differences between older Arri/Zeiss primes and the RPPs. If I put the same lenses on a 16 MP camera and shoot photos, I don't see much more of a difference.

But this is all about limiting resolution only, please remember Otto…

The whole optical and image processing system needs a very delicate balance. Those films from Panavision I mentioned from the early days of R1 explained it very well, they tried to bias into the direction of Genesis/F35 only in the end. Wonder if they are still around somewhere, seems Panavision pulled them from their site.

And you guys thought I was exaggerating about these Leicas! :w00t:

The scary part is, you don't have to look at these lenses at center crop at T4... they are sharp as hell wide open, and in the corners, with little distortion on the wide end.

Just to confirm, is Jim talking about the Summilux-C lenses, the ones you used in that gorgeous footage a couple weeks ago? My Zeiss had to pick its jaw up off the floor after that :drool5:

If the chart looks this good on Leicas, I am pretty sure it will look exactly the same on Master Primes, as they are still the absolute Sharpest and best Cine Lenses ever made,
if the new Cine Leicas were to be any sharper then the Master Primes, then I must say that they have done nothing short of an insane Miracle a la RED... ;)

Count me in to see that comparison! I'm a huge, huge Zeiss fan, but Tom's shoot really blew me away. I need to see more footage, but I think Leica has overtaken Zeiss for my favorite glass on digital!

Yes, someone was foolish enough to give me those lenses for a week!

Hi guys.

maybe you were waiting but unfortunately I still didn't open my promised brand new tread about Alexa -The New German Pragmatism

it's coming soon!

All I must say at the moment that wine always makes you thinking simply just better and always in a right direction...

Stay tuned...

Yikes... I'm guessing Sanjin must have had the wine flowing and followed through on his plans for this homage thread to the Alexa?? Lol, I hope he is not gone forever.
