Hi,

I would like to start a new thread on led lighting to see what you guys have discovered so far and what the future holds for us.

Since they made the 3 watt light 5500 k it seems, building a fixture out of this can be a very cost and power efficient way to build a daylight fixture. I think Ledz are building their lights with this led.

However, companies are already bringing out 6 watt leds with twice as much lumen so there must be an even brighter fixture on the way, with which we can really start to compare to the lower end HMI's. But I can't seem to find any company building them. In the 'disco industry' its raining par can's and other fixture types filled with led that look a lot more promising then whatever the 'film light industry' seems to be producing. They are for instance adding lenses per led to control the bundle... I couldn't find any on the ledz fixtures.

maybe I'm not looking hard enough, so if anyone has a good suggestion on where to look, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking of finding support from light rental companies to start developing a nice fixture .

Is there anyone else who would like to see more led fixtures for film purposes?

Yeah i did, the thing is, there's lots of these small kinds of led fixtures for film... stuff you put on camera's, or use for car shoots...

I'm just curious if anyone is building something really powerful and versatile. Something in the likes of 5600k's Jokerbug. I'm sure it's possible. And it should be more cheap, provide the same amount of lumen and use less power... its all in the nature of led

I did a study of using leds in an aerial application last year.
We needed equivalent of 2.5HMI flood, the idea was to use LED so we could run on aircraft power.

The upsum is that they don't have the physical size to power output that a typical HMI has. We needed a hugh number of them to get near a 2.5HMI.

They are good at small size and lowish output.
Not yet good at medium size high output.
Improvements are being made regularly so keep looking!

thanks for the answer. What type of led light did you use? Which leds were build into the fixtures (watts/brand/serie)?
