Hello everyone,

I would like to make a lighting kit based on LED and I come to solicit your opinion on my choices, I confess that I am not a specialist of light so all your returns are good to take.

For the moment my choice has stopped on two references that seem to me quite interesting (level power and CRI) but not having been able to test them I would like to have your opinion on.

- The Litepanel ASTRA Daylight (and not bi-color for maximum power) with V-mount battery adapter

- Aladdin Bi-flex 4 Kit Bi-color (200w) or 2 Kit Bi-color (100w) with battery adapter V-mount: for its flexible side and usable almost everywhere

- Feet Matthews MD-387485

I will start on two ASTRA + 1 Aladdin, what do you think? Will these lights get married well? Or is it better that I go on 3 Astra? Knowing that I would like to use them both on the lighting of interview of Documentary but also on fiction and that finally I may be led to rent them so I need something solid!

In your opinion, how much battery capacity will I need if I want to hold a day?

What accessories do you advise to take in addition?

Thanks

These are very different lights. The Aladdin is a very broad beam light vs the Astra as it is only smd LEDs with no lenses. Personally I'd go for the Astra bicolor as the daylight is only about 1/4stop brighter since they don't drive the LEDs at full power. They would be good compliments given differences in size, output, and beam angle. For your third LED you may want to look at something with a narrower beam angle in case you want some more punch.

Can't say I've seen these lights used together on set so you should test first since despite good cri/tlci they may render certain colors or spike certain parts of the spectrum differently.

I've been using the Westcott Flex Bi-Color studio kit for the past year. Love it for smaller projects, interview setups, etc :D Being able to bend the lights around is really nice if you need to cram them in small spaces or just quickly tape one to a wall or something :D

Any suggestions on 2 dimmable LEDs for a background light on my white backdrops?

I own 4x Westcott Flex LEDs 10"x10" and I want to add 2 more lights so that I can dedicate 2 to background and have 4 to shape my subject.
I would get 2 more Westcott Flex lights, but I haven't been keeping up with what else is out there since summer 2015.

Here's a video I came across comparing some of the cheaper ones:

I think the Astra's and the aladins would be perfect together. Astras for punch, aladins for fill.

Re the above LEDs, I own 6 of the Falcon eyes 18"x24" and I love them. Color temp is spot on, I love that they are so slim and flexible. I use the hell out of them. Onlyy warning is that I wouldn't trust the stitching to not pull out when using the factor bracket. I just put them on an 18x24 solid or an empty 18x24 frame.

Thanks, Nick. I'm gonna look into the Falcons.
