  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LED Fresnel

I'm not sure about Creamsouce. Their specs say the following:
28,000 lux @ 0.5m (2600 foot candles)
9,500 lux @ 1.0m (880fc)
Follow the fall off progression and by the time you get to a reasonable working distance to talent, you're down to squat fc. (4.5'=290fc; 6'=95ft; 7.5'=31; 9'=10 fc etc.) At least Lightpanels and others show their fc's out to 20 feet or so. This way you know what the light is capable of.

This is inaccurate math on the Creamsource. First off, there are two versions of the light, spot and flood. That's because every LED emitter has a lens. With that lens comes great efficiency. On the Spot model, at 10', I measured 525fc with a beamspread of 6'4". Putting a sheet of 216 diffusion 8" in front of it to completely soft the light, at 10' I measured 80fc with a 9'6" beamspread. I believe that Outsight (makers of the Creamsource) has similar photometrics on their website and product literature (downloadable on their website). That's a far cry from 10fc at 9'.

The Creamsource is a very powerful light. We could point it into the ceiling of the Las Vegas Convention Center and easily see the beam illumination. If you stood 10' away from it and had someone point the Spot lamp directly in your eyes it would be extremely bright.

Here's a video blog post I made last month about the Creamsource:

Hey Mitch, quick question, if I wanted a daylight balanced pepper light is there anything out there without putting a CTB?

edit:
I think I already know it, its gotta be hmi like arrisun or something. But if you think of anything else I appreciate your knowledge.

Wow I didn't know dedo made a 200 w hmi - I love that light, thanks for pointing it out to me.

I'm also amazed by the price, whew!!
I might just have to make do with the new $600 solaENG shown at NAB in this capacity.
