  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Leaving RED Digital Cinema for the Blackmagic: 2 Years Later

That was quite informative. When cameras like the X-T3 or the GH5 etc. get better DR, and even global shutters, I wonder what the future will look like for the low to mid end. Why would one use an Alexa LF when an FX3 can match it in many ways, and beat it in others? That's a rhetorical question - I'm not a DP. But I do like to look ahead. And I do like to take somewhat reasonable positions on gear, while allowing myself to have my preferences.

The generic statement, "The right camera for the job" is nothing but a virtue signal. "I'm too good and pure to care about cameras.". You can use the BMP6K for almost anything. TV, commercials, the big screen, music videos. Same with the Pocket 4K, the GH5S, the A7SIII, the Komodo (save for frame rates), the Alexa Mini, the Raven, the Arricam SR4... etc. Lens choice is arguably where you would put more of your time for a given project. Never mind locations, lighting choices and what not.

BTW if anyone criticises your choice of the classic Alexa, just tell them it's a 65 Mini - same DR colour and file format, but just a smaller cut of the sensor and a more practical unit all around. Stuff it, get a custom decal printed and stick in on. Producers won't know the difference.

Hahaha Might have to try that. Thanks mate :-)
