Has anyone ever seen this before? My R1MX seems to have something leak or run down the front of the sensor! I haven't lodged a ticket yet and hoping a local tech will be able to pull the R1 apart and 'clean' it rather than spending hundreds of dollars and weeks without a camera sending back to the States. Fingers crossed...but somehow i think not.

That certainly looks dread, that's for sure.

I hope it's not contagious!

Good luck, Mr. Edgar.

Is it on the front or back of the OLPF? Don't forget there's a Red service centre in Japan.

It's behind the front olpf...if you look closely at your sensor you can see another completely clear piece of glass just in from of the actual sensor and it's on that. But that glass may be part of the sensor. Yeah there is Japan but it's still takes just too long sending these things to the other ends of the planet for even small repairs or service. We really need a certified tech in Australia...we're just too far from anywhere!:( Which normally how the world works is a great thing!:)

Looks like that mount has taken a beating....was this a rental or your personal camera? Possible that someone rather abused it and the mount area? by the looks of the PL mount and the area around the pins and inside the mount...it sure looks like it has high miles and abusive miles at that.

she has around 3000 hours on her and she certainly has been used by us a hell of a lot. It hasn't been abused, just well used. If you saw around the camera even the paint on the body is wearing away where hands touch! She's been a solid girl till now and this fault would have nothing to do with the amount of usage as it's not that many hours in reality. And being an MX sensor it isn't very old at all, the sensor looks as though it has just sprung a leak, not sure, looks like LCD bleeding. But by the sounds of it I am not the only one to experience this, and I'll wait to see what the actual fault is and reason why before jumping to any conclusions about the MX sensor quality.

Michael, got the email thank you...just waiting on the RMA and it'll be on the long journey over to you!

And there I was thinking I was alone ... initially I had assumed some grease (or similar) had founds it's way ...

In my case it's the original M-sensor (not MX); Red UK has checked it out and the sensor is actually cracked (in the top left corner) !

My R1 is not a hire unit, personal use only and I've certainly not dropped it. My interpretation : perhaps repeated heat & cooling cycles?
Red UK cannot repair and must be sent back to US; in my case also out of warranty ;-( ... ouch
Shame as until this 'spontaneous event' the R1 has been outstanding ...

I know that during the developing of the sensor lackuer coating was used.
Could be that this coating is melting or pealing after sometime.
I know that the sensor was estimated to last about 10 years but it could be outdated sooner as Red declared "this is a beta camera".
P.S.
Have my knowledge and thoughts, but expressing them on this forum I was bitten too many times by a minded captive market. I am sorry to say but that attitude will not serve Red in the long run.

How does it affect picture quality... obviously it will... but what are the resulting defects on picture?

Just curious.

Thanks

Patrick

It's extremely worrying that's for sure especially if it's a failure after a little over a year. But heh RED have been excellent in customer service, repairs and with any concern I have ever had directly with product. Camera is going this coming week and I'll hold off to see what comes from it when I hear back from RED after the asses it.

Let us have a look at it before you start worrying.
It could be simple fix. It looks like some cleaning fluid or something might have snuck around the back side of the OLPF.

Yeah thanks Deanan, I'm not trying to stress out too much...will just wait and see and fingers crossed!

Any news on outcome ? What was it ? Potential cause ?
