Hey - just a quick question - I may have become confused

When I first checked the prices I could have sworn the dvf/Lcd prices both included extension cables (and the adjustable arm...), but now they are separate... could someone please clarify this for me? Has it changed?

Yours cheaply,

I think they used to be included with the LCD. The Power Pack got cheaper.

You're correct, Ruairi. The price list originally listed the arm and 3' and 10' cables as included in the price.

I asked the same question yesterday in the "Pricing Mistake..." thread. Stuart from RED said:

"The LCD (just like the EVF) does come with an integrated digital signal, power and control interface cable, just not the 3 ft or 10 ft length cables which are options. You do not have to pay extra to use the LCD (or the EVF) with the camera."

Now it looks like they've changed the pricelist to say that it comes with a cable, but the adjustable arm has been removed. Not sure if this if a mistake or now the Arm costs extra as well.

This is getting quite annoying! Do they change the pricelist on a daily basis?

This is extremely unprofessional. I'm disappointed, to say the least. :angry03:

parisrem - yeah, I'm bummed by that as well.

This is giving some people more fuel for amunition. Surely the arm comes with the LCD. It comes with the EVF so why not with the LCD?

If it is NOW extra i feel red will have shot themselves in the foot....or arm

Actually both the cables (3ft & 10 ft) + the arm are taken out of the LCD offer.

That adds 675$ to the price of the package.
At least if you need to put the LCD on a jib, steadycam or the like.

LCD Metamorphoses...

LCD Metamorphoses...

With some foresight I have archived all price list versions.
This is the history of the LCD Screen:

What's going on is that they probably announced their prices too early.

Bad as it is (because this is not good) noone actually have been able to buy the equipment at either of the various pricepoints, so they haven't cheated anyone. Anyone - myself included - are free to adjust their prices @ anytime.

This is not a very clever move, but nothing we can do much about.

Just my 2c.

I am wondering the same thing. it's annoying if they say the price is cheaper on one item, but do not announce a price increase on something else.
That is exactly what has annoyed me. If the prices are rising on an item and they can no longer afford to offer the same price on it, I can understand that - costs grow, as we all know.

What I am not happy with is the announcement of a price decrease and the complete radio silence (across two threads now) on a much larger price increase. It smacks slightly of marketing spin to me, which at this point would be a huge shame as up until this point I have been completely won over by the open, honest approach of the whole Red project.

I really hope that we don't get let down - philosophically speaking - at the last hurdle...

As far as I'm concerned this is not an issue of cost - I'll buy the camera either way, as I'm sure everyone who was going to will, and it's still an incredible bargain - it's a point of principle: If you're going to announce a price decrease, you should equally be honest and announce any price increases.

That's the way it is in my world, at any rate.

Very well said, Dominic!

The LCD would be a bargain for $1700 even without any accessories at all, that's for sure. But silently changing the price list without any notification on this board is really uncool.

Maybe we made a mistake by trying to force prices out before NAB. We have 14 people working their asses off trying to get everything done.

So... if you are disappointed, we are sorry.

As for what "was" last year, please remember the BIG, BOLD LETTERS, "things will change, count on it." We have been very open in our process, always with the caveat that things will change... specs, prices, everything. And they have. We have lived up to our word.

Now if you are irritated about how we are doing, just send your "R" back and get 110% back on your deposit. You can always jump back in when things have settled down. But please stop complaining about things changing. That is the one thing we promised from the beginning.

BTW, the camera is ten times what we talked about a year ago. Look again at the specs. The best you could do on a budget was 2k RGB. That is now 4K REDCODE RAW.

Sorry for my irritation, but if we are causing you frustration, the best solution is for us to go dark until NAB.

One last thought... we aren't done changing prices. At the end, probably to your advantage.

Hi Jim,

Maybe you did make a mistake and force your prices out too early - but I have absolutely no problem with that. If you find your costs are growing and things need to be higher in price than you would have liked, as I stated in my previous post, it neither surprises nor upsets me.

As I also stated, I've no problem with the current pricing - it's still fantastic.

What I do still find a slight affront, and what I have still had no reasonable response to, is why the price decreases have been announced and not the increases. I can appreciate you feeling annoyed that you have copped some flak (any at all, in fact) after the immense amount of risk and effort you have clearly put into this project, but hopefully you can appreciate my annoyance at not being kept informed of all changes, regardless of whether they are positive or negative...

As you yourself said - we are all well aware that changes will happen. Please just do us the honor of being honest and open and keeping us abreast of such changes - that's all I ask.

I hope that's not too much to ask, and I equally and sincerely hope that you will not take this as an attack upon yourself or your team - rather, it is a real request that I think many here would share. If that is not the case, then please (other members of this board) feel free to tell me so. Also, be sure that if you treat me with respect you will have my respect and loyalty for all time....

All the best Jim,
Dom.
