We now anticipate about 5000 for the 1st years production.
When we pulled the trigger just under two years ago, we hoped that we would sell 500-1000 cameras the 1st year of production.
We have pre-sold just about 3000 cameras, but the orders are coming in more regularly now that we have released REDCINE and people are having success in the field shooting RED (like Soderbergh). We now anticipate about 5000 for the 1st years production. It might go over that, but we can up production as needed starting in March. This would account for our "about 500 per month" production runs starting this month.
Part of the reason that we are selling more than we originally thought is that the camera is so much better than we imagined two years ago. There was no 4K to Compact Flash back then. REDCODE didn't exist. And we didn't dream that the Mysterium sensor would be this good.
Thanks to all that believed in us NAB 2006. We are working hard not to let anyone down.

I'm expecting that Sony would have sold over 8,000 F900s.... that camera has been around since Star Wars 2, which was 5 years ago and people are still buying them.
Took me 2 hours of searching online but......

2700 F900s..... last three posts.
.
love the Ivy... I'm really close do I get in on the first batch??? Glad you didn't say dinner as then I'd have assumed you were disingenuous, casue at this time of the year its murder getting a table..
I'll buy everyone on this list lunch at the Ivy if there are more than 1500 series 1/2/3 f900s.
However if you want to group all of the HDCAM family including the most popular PAL camera the HDW750 as well as the news versions the 700, and 730 then the number is harder to establish.
As a guide it took around two years for Sony Europe to sell 100 HDW750s.
The pace of adoption is increasing of course.
