  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Late...

To all those complaining about the delivery dates, just let me remind everybody one of the RED motos that's all over the place (and don't get me wrong, I get why you are angry):

"Everything is subject to change. Count on it"

They've been telling everybody from day 1. Don't blame RED for wanting to get their job done right, please. The most people in here want a camera that's gonna last for years. If we didn't, we would buy a 5D MkII (that could keep you going for some months at least). And for a laughing price for what they are offering!

Cheers everybody!

I can wait, no problem at all. Just give me a couple of Epics to play with in The meantime.

I can wait too, just not for Epic...

Anyway I love to have news in the Recon thread again, that definetly helps the waiting go faster, that and our lovely MX R1.

Yes she is... :-)

Jim

Dude, I should hope she is. You are a beast, my friend. Way to leave a legacy. Your shine is unreal, Jim. All the best, and keep up the excellent work. We are counting on you.

BTW, I just shot with a non-MX modified RED recently, and the images are stunning there, as well. I love the fact that you're such a rebel, sir.

Best,

Eryc

Some opportunities are lost to those that wait too long.

I feel bad for our customers and our engineers. Customers have the right to feel disappointed for the delays and our engineers are working so hard to get this done. I set out an impossible task. What we are doing really is impossible, which is exactly the way I want it. But it takes a toll on everyone. Sometimes I don't sleep at night because of what I am putting everyone through... In the end, it will be worth it. In the meantime it is hell for all. Sorry about that.

Jim

EMMM...Jim, I'm not sure if you have seen the footage coming out of the Red One-MX. If you haven't then rest assured that as at now we are very very impressed and joyously satisfied with what we have. The cameras are stable, the work flow problems are minimal (extensive choices) etc. We are of course part of this Red program for the release of the Epic, but right now please take your time, no pressure whatsoever, we don't even need patience we have the Red-MX.

We await the story telling possibilities of the EPIC, we know you will deliver come rain or shine. We are very patient.

Thanks

Jim, forget we exist. Life will be much easer. Then when YOU have the toy you want, it will be natural to share(replicate) with everyone else!

I agree 100%, since I got my R1 I have never "needed" anything else ...I understand progress moves forward not backward but it could be 4 more years for all I care and 3 feature films later...I'd be happy in my grave 80 years from now with my R1. Ok? get my point? LOL

this post by jim is sounding like the epic and the scarlet are going to be very...very...very late!! maybe next summer?...or even later...oh no!

Hmmm, to me it sounds like “this is why we are as late as we are”. It’s a progress report.
Why try and attach some random future date to it?

Everyone wants the latest and greatest camera out there. We are only human. But seriously folks, I bet 96.7% of the current Red users are outputting to a maximum 1080p. The images from the original Red were amazing. The mere ability to re-frame and resize shots to get even more footage for shows is incredible.

The Red-MX has seriously cut the cost of lighting and cooling on shoots.

The Epic and Scarlet will allow us to shoot stealth discreetly in new ways and places we only dreamed off years ago.

We have thanked Red many times over. For some of us if this camera had not come along we would have spent many months and years trying to raise money for film stock and developing.

I can only speak for filmmakers. These are good times we live in. The is very little financing money out there even for the big guys. Here is your chance to create art whilst others wait for more money etc.

sorry about the Rant

"They didn't know that it was impossible, so they did it !"... should I say when i get my scarlet in hands.
Till that day, delivery time gets longer and longer ! Yes, it is VERY frustrating! So what, will I deny Red and My future scarlet for this? For sure I won't !
We gotta encourage Red and all these sweating and sleeples guys.

Maybe it's time to brush up on the story skills now....sure is what I and my my brother have been doing... realizing that we "now have it all"...yet "having it all" does not make a film, does not build proper story structure, does not do much of anything but sit in a truck without the soft side...It's just great to have it here and knowing that our MINDS are what holds us back now....love it.

A pen and paper are free and also worthless until you master them, in a way that's a bit like RED.

J. We are doing the best we can... which also means we can't satisfy everyone.

Jim

Hola Jim & All the RED TEAM as you read many of all you clients (really your parners) understan this hard moment but as I say before we now you and RED TEAM are working and dreaming the next steps to do.

Jim I have a suggestion redirects personnel and attention to normalize the DELIVERY SCHEDULE because many of us have our R1 whitout EVF, LCD, RED DRIVE, RED RAMS, TOP MOUNTS, and many etc. (very important RED STATION CF) whit this Attachments we can KEEP WALKING (shooting & making bussines) while the EPIC SEE THE LIGHT.

GRACIAS TO ALL THE RED TEAM

Any estimate idea on time-frame when these brains get out? May ease some speculation? Then again it probably would make new ones? Maybe have three estimates, one for earliest, another for average time frame and last for the unexpected?

I am FINE with the DELAYS....keep them coming PLEASE!!! just makes my MX RED ONE still a viable work-horse. Thanks for the delays---even though i have two epics within stage 2 and will also take two scarlets. Need as much life out of my MX as i can get.....No problem here. Make that new epic/scarlet a never die camera; add as many bells to it as you can dream; 8-10 more months is not a problem here.
thanks RED

Scarlet will be ready when you are.

Let's put tech in perspective. From 1960s to mid-90s, the training path was to shoot 8mm or Super8mm film, then 16mm, and then if you were really lucky, the holy grail, 35mm.

At present, the Canon 7D is the 16mm/Super 8mm equivalent. All you'll learn from DSLR experiences is directly applicable when the Scarlet materializes.

More importantly, you'll learn that whatever the final price is, you're WILL NEED MORE MONEY! For production gear, camera cases, rigs, not to mention an updated computer to be able to push these files through editing. So if the scarlet is $6 grand, have $9 grand available.

Borrow/rent/buy a DSLR. Shoot with it. Try editing the footage, and color correcting.

Scarlet doesn't make anyone more of a filmmaker than any technology available for purchase or rental right now. Meaning, don't blame Scarlet for holding up your dreams. You can be a high def filmmaker with an iPhone 4 if you want no control, or Canon 7d if you want full control. It's up to you, not the camera.
