  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Late...

We understand the process, is just that some of us are impatient and or some of us I guess don't really understand the all process, but some of us truly do, and appreciate the transparency in which Red decided to act with his new company, and some of us do appreciate that transparency which gets put at risk by some of us which are just simply a PAIN IN THE ASS, so some of us continue to hope that yRed remains kind to that policy and keeps us in the loop, for the god and for d=the bad news.

As far as for the program, well no much to say, its just mind blowing, and for those of us that did plaid with EPIC knows this very well.

Now that DELAYS are inevitable with still no release date in site...It would be great to reconsider MX upgrades on my cams and recoupe some of the lost revenue to this new demand. Unfortunately I still don't wanna lose $5750x2 when I turn them in when stage 3 gets under way... So my question,
Based on the new information with these delays, will there be ANY $$$ incentives for upgraded Reds for stage 3? ...and if not, how 'bout reopening stage 2, 2.5, 2.7 etc. etc.
Thanks!

The camera delays I can live with. I'm yurning for ssd right now. Thanks for the hard work RED!

I read that message as: "We're not close enough to finish line to be comfortable speculating on a release date yet." Which is fine - I totally respect that.

Releasing Epic and Scarlet before they are fully cooked would be a huge mistake. These delays will be forgotten the instant that people have the best gear in the world in their hands. People would never forgive on-time products that sucked.

Meanwhile, it gives everyone's wallets some extra time to prepare.

It's all good.

I'm just grateful that Red is in a position to take the time to get it right, and not being forced into premature release by lack of resources, or by pressure from investors. Huge thank you to Jim for making this possible. I think a lot of people don't understand how unique Red is in that regard.

I'm not cancelling my Epic-X order anytime soon...

J. We are doing the best we can... which also means we can't satisfy everyone.

Reminds me of a line from one of my favorite songs:

"if you're gonna come around here
and say those sort of things
you gotta take a few on the chin
you talking about love and all that stuff
you better bring your thickest skin
sometimes you can't please everyone
sometimes you can't please anyone at all
you sew your heart onto your sleeve
and wait for the ax to fall"

Bottom line of the changes in the Scarlet program over the years means that I'm probably priced out at this point in time. That just means either I do the leg work I gotta do to make more $$ or I live with the fact that I can't afford your products.

I fear Red is becoming untouchable, their fan base is so big and mighty that there there is very few responses on here that are not influenced by affection for Jim's and the Red teams massive achievement with Red One, of which I am one of the fanboys myself. A price hike and further delays is not good news, its very bad news. A lot of people are following Red on this journey and invested much time and resources to these cameras. I myself would like to see a release date set, an unmovable release date. Yes what your doing is massive on a scale I could not comprehend, incredible complicated, but if you set a worse case deliver date and stick to it I think we could all sleep a bit easier at night, and if you finish earlier you could use that time to iron out all the bugs. None the less thanks for pushing technology forward, no one else really seems to be. Looking forward to the day that digital looks better than film, I imagine red will be leading that charge.

It takes guts to do what you guys are doing. Especially when there are jerks out there who want to see you fail. I for one will take delays...so long as you continue with this kind of transparency I've seen the past couple of years.

In a way, it's kind of our fault (the online community) for what's happening with Scarlet. 2 years ago, the first conception of Scarlet was nothing like it is projected to be today. That's 'cause you guys seem to listen to our requests and keep an open honest talk with us.

I don't feel bad for the delays. I feel bad for the engineers who are having to trudge on through these delays...

Gotta love the RED community....

I disagree. "Cause if I'm RED and you put me in that spot I set a date with plenty of wiggle room, like an extra 6 months. Then, under your scenario RED would just wait any extra time after the camera is finished, twiddling their thumbs until that set in stone release date comes around.

Remember Oakley? Jim knows how to run a railroad.

A date set in stone is a date, I would take that any day of the week, if they said it s march 2011 then its march 2011, I think we all thought we would see these cameras this year, can anyone on here say with any belief say we now will?

Why is RED so late releasing EPIC and Scarlet?

1. We had no idea what we were doing.

No company loves what they are doing more than RED. No company works harder. But forgive us if we don't meet deadlines. This is really hard stuff.

Jim

Jim,

Allow me to look at your first point differently.

You do know what you are doing.

You are bringing to market a product that meets your vision, your standards. Those standards give us new options when manipulating light to create images. And the cost to performance level you are working towards is unprecedented.
You have brought the right team together to achieve those goals - providing us with new tools that are changing the entire industry and art.

When you don't meet deadlines, we know that you are simply not accepting any compromise. You have already proven that we should expect nothing less.

The word "delay" is relative. EPIC could have been released without HDR - or many of the other innovations under development. A "should have, could have" approach is not in keeping with what we expect from RED. I for one will be patient - I love seeing how this tool I will soon own is evolving. If it takes "x" months more, no problem. I'll be ready for EPIC when it is.

In the meantime, stay the course. Keep striving to make the impossible a reality. Just watch what we do with it after it's in our hands...

O.k. let's say they set that date. And when cameras are ready they start shipping on that date. But what about the guy with camera number 6000 who is in stage 2 and there are maybe 3000 ahead of him in Stage 2? The production line can't stamp these things out in a few minutes, so that guy has to wait until his camera is ready. Where's his drop-dead date?

I think many of us don't understand R&D, QC, and production very well. The recent article posted on REDuser helped me better understand RED's process, but until then I imagined some offshore factories turning out components that just had to be assembled and shipped. Seemed easy when thinking of it that way. But that article showed that engineering, software coding,.. those things are being done on site and probably many other parts of the build... and they are dynamic.

Life is full of uncertainty. :chillpill:

Jim,

I am appreciative that RED is NOT pulling an M$FT and releasing something that is not fully ready for prime-time and patching it as you go. You and the rest of the RED team are doing amazing work. It seems so interesting that I would love to help out wherever I could. I believe in your vision. Your passion and conviction speaks volumes.

As you were, mad genius!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us Jim.
And most of all, thanks for your patience as some of us struggle to put aside our own egos and limited wants; and for the trust you show in us by releasing many up to the minute developments of what surely will prove to be a momentous occasion for the future of Filmmaking. And thanks to the many many RED site members for continuing to share their knowledge of this ever changing and complex technology.

Jim,

Thank your team, s well as yourself. And to fellow customers who are understanding. Sometime impatient, always with unbridled excitement.

But, I get my brand new MX-ified Red back next week. So I have a "new", even better camera I can shoot with until my Epic comes.

Tp paraphrase.... Wheat from Chaff....

Shoot now on what you can. If you can't afford or justify the cost, not the fault of Red, or even yourself. It is business. Or in my case, insanity.....
