  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Late...

J. We are doing the best we can... which also means we can't satisfy everyone.

Jim

I know. It's a tricky path your have chosen. Just don't lose sight of us indi film makers who just want to tell a story and are not working DP's/cameramen

Please don't take this the wrong way but I hope you aren't preparing us for another year delay.

Jim, thank you for sharing and thank you to all @ RED for all your work making history.

any "general" specifics you could share with us during the journey?
like what major milestones are a must and yet to be finished vs others that can wait post shipment.
any currently unresolved challenges?

I understand if you can't.

we feel part of it, being in the loop. Even to the 'surface' level like when we knew there was an unresolved software bug and then the news of squashing it.

there are way more of us here who are supportive and understanding of any delays of sincere and honest work, than those who pick at it.

thank u again

All i can say is that I feel truly blessed to be alive and aware as this revolution is unfolding. Take the time you need Jim and team. The digital revolution is about to get a lot more revolutionary!

If it was the case just re-open stage 2 and we can wait peacefully the great stuff (for people in stage 3)...

Delay won't matter to me.

Delay won't matter to me.

.. and i think it shouldn't to anyone - since if RED wouldn't be on the planet we most probably would still shoot on HDV and sony F23. we have a great tool NOW called RED ONE.

As I said long ago NAB 2011 had always perfect timing that we can see something serious about EPIC.

Till then is about six months and there is enough time to fix those things that were making troubles with EPIC software/hardware.

Don't forget that we didn't see EPIC with REDMOTE™ at the latest reports and reviews...

And the latest came HDRx, Magic Motion, Graeme Nattress "fusion" with The Foundry algorithms, etc,...

All that takes time...

No company loves what they are doing more than RED. No company works harder. But forgive us if we don't meet deadlines. This is really hard stuff.

Jim

I´m ready when you are Jim!
Take youre time guys.

I think, we indies need to remember, that it is the spirit, that drives us.

... it makes no difference to fund 4000 or 10000 if the dream is right.
those are not amounts, that are hard to fund, borrow, talk into, work up to or whatever way one chooses to get them.

it is different with a 50 to 80k package. explain to the banker "the revolution in cinema" ... lol ....

if the indie spirit would be buried in a 1000 bucks price diffence, what would it be worth? No offense ... just triggering a thought process.

Indie is about attitude. This is work that needs to be done by the indie, not Red.

just my 2 cents.

May independent cinema thrive
:-)

and RED!

Jim, there are a lot of us, especially on ScarletUser, who've been waiting for 2 1/2 years for this camera. The price, scope, and features have changed dramatically since her original announcement, but the same spirit is still there.

We've literally had to wait for her to grow up, but I will say that I think we're going to love what she looks like in the end. Just like when we trust a director to get the take, we trust you to keep going until you get it right.

If that takes a little bit longer, it'll be okay. We have all been through these delays before, and no doubt there will still be more delays ahead, but we know there has been a lot of progress.

In short: There are plenty of us that still love the ride. Don't beat yourself up about it. :}

Dear Jim

We love what you do.. We know that EPIC arrived..."Slow but sure."

Because of this new delay may we imagine that you can reopen Stage 2 program or find a solution for those like me want to upgrade for MX but did not know when Stage 2 open that RED MX permits no reduction in Stage 3

Thank you again to inform us about the EPIC program
" Honesty is the best policy"

Thanks for the update, Jim. Nice to hear from you on this topic.

Anyway, I must be one in a million in that I prefer the delays, not only 'cause I'm sure you've taken the right decision by not wanting to deliver an unfinished camera (whatever it takes, the best camera that's gonna be out there), but also 'cause I've got more time to gather the money for my stage 2 EPIC.

Keep on working, but for God's sake, take some rest, it will be a shame if the program couldn't get to a happy ending. Remember that an "in memoriam" isn't worth it!:nono:

The Epic and Scarlet will be here when they are.The R1 MX is here now, and anyone who need to shoot now, well there are cameras out in the open capable of shooting nice imagery already.

So true.

Then +1,

... Investing a couple of years, sweat and assets into a movie project - one can as well be in ZEN mode for a while and shoot with the right tool, when it becomes available.

EPIC in my world. But that is a personal choice. And has very much to do with production style and methods. (it's so small!!!!!!!!)

Some are born to cross the borders .... hehehe ... EPIC promises great help with that

;-)

Its your "Apocalypse Now" - everyone is jibber jabberin about how long its taking, but when its here they won't be able to stop talking about the thing itself. Thanks for having the will to push so far already, and thank you in advance for what you have to go through to finish.

You guys should be enjoying your time working on the Epic and Scarlet, not wishing the projects were over. The fact is, RED are many many years ahead of the game, and the more RED is delayed, ironically, the more time you can take, as we all know such delays only result in better cameras, and hence move RED even further ahead of the pack. Don't get me wrong though, I know feeling you get when you're so passionate and eager about something, that you literally work yourself into an anxiety ridden mess - it's caused my thinking too much about the future.

Take your time, enjoy the process, and most importantly, always focus on the the step you're up to right now, as looking beyond the now will only increase your stress and anxiety levels, and will ultimately result in a lower quality product. No one wants the RED to be rushed, and those who do are probably not the customers you're interested in satisfying anyway.

Thanks Jim. Peace and love and listen to me sit in for Big Ted on Colourful Radio tonight for some big shout out to the Red team. I'm on from 12-2am BST. You can listen stateside at colourfulradio.com

:sifone:

Edit: I'm playing Hip-Hop

If this is hell, I'm OK with it. R1-MX is helping us with the best year ever and we're shooting some of the best looking footage in our 20 year history. I feel like I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth.....we're taking advantage of what is sitting in front of us rather than bitching. We're pleased to know that you're working on EPIC, but we're working with R1-MX with no complaints. Gracias!

Questions equal "exceptional" circumstances

Questions equal "exceptional" circumstances

Jim

RED clearly has the winning hand and has allowed
us to peek and "see" the Royal Flush (cool feature name)
The only way RED could lose is if it folded with this hand
which is ludicrous. So I'm just waiting like we all are...SO...
In light of the "late" announcements...
I need an additional camera.
Is it possible as a current stage 2 Epic holder
to purchase a new RED (MX) for the same discount
of my current RED (MX)? A "waiver" since their are
"delays". In short:

Can I buy a new RED MX (discounted) and be inserted with my
original RED Stage 2 effectively having 4 cameras when the
smoke clears...but only for a stage 2 as this will not force
RED to recoupe the cost of recycling if I were stage 3.
