Hi guys, I am having problem on EPIC-X and RED MX,
I saw small spot on the footage long time ago and now I got the vertical lines on the Epic footage and Red epic camera display that persist on the recorded footage also. The color of the line varies from blue to green. I have tried all possible ways to fix it but that couldn't help me so far.
I have attached some snaps that I have got in my camera display and footage. Please check it out.
Also I found red color (Like sun Glare on the lens) bottom on the footage of Red mx Camera.
Thanks

You seem to have cought a direct laser beam at event. It burns the sensor just like on your shots.

Red reflections from light sources are a common thing to happen on MX sensors - it's an OLPF reflection of a light source.

did someone sell you a bad camera?

Just make this the thread guys, why revive a 4 year old thread?

Hi Guys, thanks for concerning about my problem, Alex I am agree with you, the problem has started when we ware shoot in Disco room.
is there any chance to repair easily or I have to send to Red? I am waiting your suggestion.

Can anybody help me ? Any idea how to repair it ?

There is no easy fix to this, and I think RED announced MX support to be End Of Life.

Specifically, they said that they can no longer guarantee parts but will service older units as parts are available.

There have been other threads about sensor damage and the cost of replacement is in excess of $5000, so at this point it would be cheaper to buy a used RED ONE.

As for the Epic-X, brains are selling for around $7K, so it would effectively be a wash one way or the other.

Im sure this is all sounding pretty bad right now. But has anyone had any success in painting out the lines? Using some post apps like After Effects? Its kind of a bandaid on the real issue but it might save the shoot or at least get you thorough the project.
There is a plug in I use sometimes to fix lines or issues that are line like and the plugin also has a paint out cables for shots that have wire work supporting actors.
The companies name is RE:Vision Effects and the plug in is ReFill: http://revisionfx.com/products/refill/
I use it to paint out pesky dead pix on stills cameras and have used it many time to get rid of a power line that ran through a shot.

Sorry for my ignorance here...

Is there an official spec sheet at to various intensities of light and types of laser light (Wavelength) and energy and equivalent duration that trashes a sensor/induces permanent artifacts (for RED sensors / cameras) ?

Cheers,

Eric
