  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LART rescheduled to October

No problem at all, Steve.

And good luck for your project.

Btw, I can't wait to read your very first impressions on the #8...

Corrado.

Well, durn. Sorry you're delayed, but I fully understand and support your business needs, and I hope the other project goes swimmingly well for you.

I'm still looking forward to reporting on how it all turns out and hosting whatever you'll share (that doesn't kill me with the bandwidth bill!)

But bidness first - no complaints from me on that, I know how it is.

May your project roll smoothly down to the martini shot.

LOL...!

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the food fund...it is is safely tucked away in a bank account for use in October. It will only be used for LART meals...

No problem here. I should be getting my Red in October so the timing's pretty good for me. Good luck with your project and I'm sure we're all looking forward to hearing about whatever it is you can share.

In all honesty, this should make the LART all the more valuable when it does happen. Probably many of us have been in the situation of evaluating a brand new piece of gear we've never seen, doing some days of intensive testing and publishing some results, only to find out afterwards that some menu setting was "A" when it should have been "B" and most of what we found is suspect as a result. Actually using the camera for a while puts you in a much better position to test it. For example you probably know right away if it isn't acting "right" and a setting is off somewhere.

I'm happy for you been greenlighted. It's good karma to me.

That is cool that the project will be shot with RED. More fuel for the fire.
Interesting sidenote. A crane op on our shoot today was asking about my HVX. He also operates cam. I said mine was for sale in Jan pending the
acquisition of my new camera. "Oh what are you getting" he asked, I said "Red, of course." A blank stare come over him and he chuckled - "good luck, I would not be so anxious to sell your HVX." He He He I chuckled back under my breath.

Well, to be honest, and this really has nothing to do with RED, but if you have established income and clients from the HVX then don't sell it unless you determine that its not making any money to still have it around or if you think you can take the money from selling it and invest wisely in something else that will yield some revenue. In other words you should wait one or two quarters after you buy your new setup, go back over your records and determine if its wise to get rid of it. Long live RED and all that, but don't bite off your nose despite your face man, recognize and minimize your risks, especially after you dig a deep whole in your pocket.

Just some friendly advice, take it or leave it.

Don't take this the wrong way but I am impressed that anyone, even someone with Gibby & Ken's credentials got a major project funded using the RedOne. Taking off my fanboy hat for a minute this is not the kind of risk taking the money folks typically sign off on.

The documented success of this project has the capacity to provide tremendous ammo for the rest of us in working over producers - camera tests may make all of us swoon but a completed project with no problems is gold.

I look forward to the LART and just hope I am available on the new dates, I really would love to meet you all.

Peace - Blair

Not to cause trouble, but could there be a NEW OR PRE LART done with some one with one of the other first 50 cameras? Congrats to Gibby and Ken...

But could someone else in the first 50 step up for some professional tests for the rest of us to make some financial decisions? My camera #217 comes in October which doesn't leave much time... as well as a few other people would like to see RED put through some professional tests and posted.

So who is up to the challenge? RED holders 1-50? I'd bring my 2 nikon zoom lenses that those of us on a budget want to see compared to the RED zooms, and hopefully some Panavision zooms... we may need a new thread... BEFORE OCTOBER! RED SEPTEMBER - I'm in with Nikon 17-35mm and 80-200mm.

Hi Greg,

Panavision zooms won't fit until somebody makes a PV lens mount for Red.

Greg,

There will undoubtedly be many of the first camera holders that will post their impressions of their cameras in real-world field use. It won't be structured tests, but that kind of feedback and opinions of the images generated should be really helpful to the members here.

Also, the upside of the slightly-delayed testing that I mentioned: the first cameras won't have a lot of their eventual features enabled, but they should have many more features enabled by October.

This is specifically a LART forum that was created for posts about the LART tests. If you're trying to recruit 1-50 camera holders for another non-LART testing session that you want to hold, I think you should do it on another forum, perhaps "Off Topic". Better yet, IMO as mentioned above, the posted field impressions of the early camera holders should be of a help to others, keeping in mind the limited features of the first cameras, then we can hold LART with cameras that have a lot more features enabled.

Me and Ken are going to take a lot of time out of our greenlit production schedule to hold LART in October. IMO it will be worth waiting for because of increased capability of the cameras, the studio facilities we'll be testing at, and the quality of the team we've assembled.

...and I still cannot wait.:construction: I just wish I had my RED to shoot it.:)

Gibby since the testing is no longer RED dependant on scheduling will it be possible to somewhat arbitrarily choose a weekend in october.

It's easy for me to set aside time and clear my schedule if I know in advance, it's exponentially more difficult to try and hold all weekends open or flexible.

Absolutely...we haven't set the dates yet, but I would guess it will he somewhere in the middle of October. I'll get you more info via PM when I can...

I'm still super excited about LART! I hope the delay will allow it to be even better with increased opportunities for even more in-depth testing.
