  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Lars von trier "antichrist"

Great!!! :head_explode:

Looking forward to see it!!!

Lars von Trier and Anthony Dod Mantle will rock at Cannes 2009 (together with RED1)!!!

Trailer's looking good, but ppl should really learn that adding a wee of grain helps boosting the perceived sharpness of the image.

It was something that I did by instinct but have since learnt that it's a fact well known to still photographers, it has something to do with acutance.

What I notice is that it gives some kind of underlying structure to the image.

I sure hope so. I can't believe it's not on RED.com in the "Shot on RED" section!

Tony,

you are right and it should be listed there even before NAB.

Hopefully somebody from RED Team would read this...

This info should help RED Team to get faster Antichrist at Shot on RED web page:

I know nothing about this production, but you may want to temper your enthusiasm. Lars von Trier doesn't care a damn about production values, if anything he tries (and frequently succeeds) to destroy those values, along with dramatic illusion. In one film he used a machine to generate random camera angles; in another he intentionally degraded image quality by transferring back and forth from SD video to film.

Whatever you get on this one, it likely won't have been chosen for its beauty. This guy is taking (or trying to take) cinema apart. Antichrist indeed.:)

Somehow here you've got it wrong probably,

it's not about Lars von Trier (even if you like him or not),

it's about RED1 and that's in a way important for RED Users...

If you're heartened that he used the camera, regardless of what this film may look like, that's another matter.

But what he's done may or may not showcase the Red One, it could be quite the reverse. He doesn't pursue the values of industry cinema, it's not his object to make beautiful objects.

I could re-interpret Jean-Luc Godard from my signature and say it now like this:

"There is no point in having 'beautiful' images when you've fuzzy ideas."

It's about that Lars von Trier made a good film that brought some "fresh" idea(s) and all was shot on RED1.

BTW, for example Jackson Pollock's action painting with dripping maybe was not "beautiful" enough like any sort of

figurative paintings from that period 50s, 60s but it made a huge impact and a kind of revolution in American painting.

Lars already had his revolution, and it sort of fizzled, but we'll see what he comes up with. For all the intentional insults and affrontery flung at the viewer, "Breaking the Waves" offered up an intensity of real raw emotion rarely present in movies, so this one could be another tonic.

I think LVT cares very much about production value--he just happens to have different values than 'mainstream' cinema. The image is important to him. It might not adhere to what you find 'beautiful', but there's room for it in cinema and I welcome it.

Also, for those that haven't seen "The Kingdom"--a series LVT did for Danish television in the early 90's--it's worth checking out. It also fits into the "Horror" genre.

For all the intentional insults and affrontery flung at the viewer, "Breaking the Waves" offered up an intensity of real raw emotion rarely present in movies, so this one could bring similar revelations.

Again it's not much about Lars here, it's more about RED1.

Hope that this words above will finally help to get it right!!!

Looks very interesting.... I'm a fan of LVT. I'm stoked to see this.

some of the footage has that "video smear" kinda thing going on.... like when the shutter speed is set to 1/24th or what have you... perhaps LVT was going for that look specifically, who knows? Either way, the trailer looks very cool... the production design seems top notch... and that frame grab of the couple having sex on the arms/roots.... wow!

Be sure to download the 720p version too in the lower right corner :-) Looks kinda "milky" - a gamma thing I suspect.

Grain is video streaming first enemy.
I love the natural grain that comes with film print.

Love the trailer!

The slowmo shots of the woman walking look absolutely fantastic!
I agree, though I wonder if they were shot on Red though - seems almost TOO slow, more like Phantom footage. Perhaps if she moved slowly the effect would work the same?

If the slomo is indeed shot on Red it looks gorgeous!

Cheers,

Paul

There are some great images in the trailer, but why the smearing? Shutter speed is too low in some images and it becomes a bit too blurry for my taste. A bit faster shutterspeed and it wouldn't have looked so "video-ish".
I would like to hear the why's of that choice.

But I'm really intrested in this film.

LVT, today is your birthday, so Congratulations !

Emanuel :-)

Kind of looks like "Walden meets Satan."
